I guess it would be easy to think the worst when something like that happens with all the noise and loss of power so I guess he was somewhat relieved to find out it was a blown out plug.

Sucks that it happened but he shouldn't go to Ford about it.

Uhhhh...leave it on the side of the road and put FREE sign on it ??!??

They should do something about it because they have a reputation to uphold. One of their motors blew at 82k.... Come on that is ridiculous, they should at least offer some sort of help. Now if the guy has never taken it in to get serviced or anything like that, then they should say sorry but you have to take better care of your truck...

I thought the heads had been upgraded by 05 and had more threads where the plugs go in. I'm not sure but there are some far more knowledgable people on here that would know when the heads were improved.

I don't know, I'm just typing what I heard him say. It was 3 in the morning and he was standing on the side of the freeway no longer going fishing for the day. So maybe his mind wasn't quite right.
Slight difference from a popped plug and...a rod hanging out the side of the block!
BTW...I thought the 4 liter engines were the only ones known to shot out a plug?

Yeah, that's an understatement!! Maybe he's a "glass half empty" kind of guy. Then when things aren't as bad as they once seemed, you feel better!

Not sure about the 4 liter shooting out plugs. But after he shot the #2 plug out he effectively had a 4.725 L. Does that change things?

so what is a decent life span for a motor?

100k, 150k, 200k miles? IMO, Ford owes him nothing but a place to get the repair done. if the guy is a loyal customer at that dealership, then maybe they'll cut him a deal on the labor or parts. that's about it from my perspective
