California Registration ?
Hello all. I think I am still considered a noobie here but that's alright by me. I have done my searches and have yet to find any info regarding CA vehicle registration. I bought my truck in Jan of this year and received my registration about 2 weeks later but it came with a December sticker and the registration stated it was a commercial vehicle. Are all trucks considered commercial vehicles. Registration was almost $500 for a 2006 FX4. Any insight is greatly appreciated. Thank you!

$500.00 wow. Can't help on CA rules but luckily here in MN a 1/2 ton is treated like a car. Just renewed my 06 on sat for only $122.50 and that included special Support Our Troops plates.

Welcome to the Republic of California! I moved out last year.
In Cal., all vehicles that can carry cargo are considered commercial. It doesn't matter if it's a Ford Ranger or a F-450. A dedicated passenger type vehicle (car, SUV) isn't considered commercial. However, there is a form that you can fill out at DMV saying the vehicle isn't a commercial use vehicle. But, if you carry any cargo (personal luggage, groceries, lumber, camping gear, whatever) you can be cited, and from what I was told by DMV, the fine is real ugly.
The registration fees are based on the value of the vehicle and will go down every year to a max of, I think $85.00. The year sticker on the rear license plate, cut slits thru it so the stickers don't get taken. Also, don't let the stack get large as it makes it easier to remove them.

My '05 screw was $424 for '06 and $402 for '07.
My dammm insurance costs just about as much or more than I pay for gas, and my driving record is clean :-(

in illinois its 135 to register it to get new plates. 1/2 tons and 3/4s get class B truck plates, anything higher is classified with a different letter plate c,d all the way to z but thats for like a boom truck or somthin. its $78 each year to renew them no matter what plate it is except for trailers.

I moved to Las Vegas where the registration was a little better, than Washington wher it was about the same as Ca. Funny thing was, the insurance in Vegas was worse than the San Francisco bay area, and Washington was about the same as the S.F. area. And, I have a good driving record with no accidents. Ahhh, it's all a sca, to generate revenue.
