I ordered a set of chrome tailgate chains for my 1950 F-1. Upon arrival, I noticed that the chrome chain bracket which attaches to the truck is a bit different. My original chains attached at the rear of the truck and at the top of the stake pocket with one bolt. The chrome chains attach to the side of the stake pocket with 3 bolts. This can done very easily but don't the bolts restrict my use of the stake pocket? At the present time, I really have no plans for using the stake pockets but I do not want to drill holes if they are not needed. Have any of you encountered the same issue?

I was given a set of chains that attach like the ones you bought. I decided not to use them and put on some latches. What did the chains cost? I want to sell mine, but I don't know what they are worth.
Thanks,
I also have a set of those SS chains (note that LMC calls them chrome-mine are not magnetic so therefore SS) that I plan to use. Willard is a 49 and I have the earlier raised side bed. The SS chains that I have are made for the later flat sided beds (changeover occuring in 1950). I want my chains inside the bed rather than outside so I plan on a number of mods to the tailgate/chains and a different latch system. I have not done it yet.If you use the chains outside (which I have considered) on the earlier beds and want to use the original rivoted bracket I would cut/modify the appropriate SS chain link open it up, pass it through the original bracket and weld it back closed. If it is SS you will need to TIG it. A fair amount of hassel to save the stake pocket.
