76 F-250 390 (was 360) with Stock Duraspark, 4bbl 600 Edlebrock and Performer intake, long tube headers, CR over 9.5:1, have to run 93 octane
Might want to take a close look at the insulator color - you might be able to come down a couple of heat ranges and get away with a lower octane fuel(especially if you don't run any kind of an EGR). Just my thought..............
no EGR, what color would let me go cooler, and what would the plug numbers be
btw, the plugs have just a little light brown color
My experience is that when you take away the EGR, combustion temps climb. Without a slower advance curve, it takes more octane to keep the pinging away. Look for a ring around the insulator. If its near the center of the insulator, its pretty close. If not, try a couple of heat ranges cooler and see where the ring is.
I don't know what the number of the plug would be. Perhaps your plug's web site may have the heat range numbers.
If I may chime in, I work in Burlington, Iowa at the Champion Spark Plug facility, buy Champion, we're proud of the good products we produce, and you're money with stay on this side of the ocean.
