we figured it out

we found out that there was a piston that had chunks missing out of it. so we pulled the motor and now have it on the stand. we are going to pull all the pistons and re ring them along with replacing the destroyed one. is there any thing that we should fix while the motors out.

thanks

crank. pull it if pieces of metal went to pan. Also put new front and rear crank seals.

I'm a beginner on these engines but i'd do the mains and look at the oil cooler while its very accessible.

replace main and rod bearings as they are not very expensive. have a machine shop measure the crank to make sure you don't need .001 bearings or larger oversizes. you should be able to use stock size though. i have .001 mains in my 89 mustang and i have great oil psi. i did not have the crank turned.

you said you have the injection pump turned up. do you know how much and how long it has been like that. you should put a pyro gauge on it or turn the pump back down a little to keep from doing that again. if you have not already, if you need to replace some burned out glow plugs, i would do it now before you put heads on. they sometimes will break off inside cylinder and you may have to take head off to remove.

well that is unfortunate. i wonder if you could get the bearing company federal mogul to custom make some. it may cost more that turning a crank and getting oversized ones though.
