Going back to my original post....

This just dawned on me or more appropriately hit me like a ton of bricks in an AH HA YUREKA! brain fart induced moment.....

When they first switched it to 5W40 (by looking @ the service dates) the lowest temps we were seeing at night were probably in the 40's-50's possibly even a touch warmer than that. At those temps it should have been a breeze to start up on the 1st try but the truck didn't - see my original post that started all this - Prev owner complained repeatedly about long crank times, rough running & hard starting.

At those temps Glow plugs (working or not) shouldn't even matter. This starts lending some relevance to this being a fuel delivery and/or fuel system related issue.

*** Update ***

Just a quick update - I've put about 600 miles on this truck. All seems to be ok - changed the oil to 15W40. Several 25-30 deg mornings here since the purchase - didn't plug it in - fired right up.

Mileage seems to be a little less than my 7.3 but I haven't calculated it out yet - this is just based on how long a 1/2 tank would last w/ the 2000 making this same trip to work everyday. I'm filling up t-night and plan on calculating a more accurate MPG on the next couple of fillups.

Otherwise, So far so good.

Nice find.

I've been thinking about an 08 F250 Supercab 4x4 Diesel Manual that has 41k miles on it. Dealer's asking 25,900. Oasis reports shows a camshaft position sensor being replaced at 14,000 miles 6 months after it was built. Oil was changed every 5k miles. Fuel filter was changed every other oil change. Anyone know what a 'WATER-FUEL SEP ELEM' is? For some reason, ZC 32A 'SPARK PLUGS' shows up occasionally. The truck was supposedly driven by a Ford exec as a lease and was auctioned off to Ford dealers.

The ESP Code is H and I guess it has the 72 month/100k mile warranty on it.

The reported problems are a little unnerving as this is a Job 1 truck, Build Date 1/16/2007. Thoughts?

Thanks.

43K was the original discounted price. Sticker price was 49K - not sure why the 6k was taken off originally. Dealer was a little vague on this when I asked about the difference. State title application shows the 1st owner took over @ 900 miles. This may explain the 6K discount - Demo? Think the dealer just wants to unload this one at any cost - they've had it on their lot since Dec 3rd. State shows title transfer back to the dealer on the 1st - my guess is the previous owner came in and said give me my $$ back or I'll invoke the lemon law and make you give it back.

I'm going to take the offer @ 29K w/ 2 conditions. (They said ok to these a few minutes ago) They need to note the concerns so that if they come up again within 90days I can get a repair & a loaner truck for free (no
deductable or cost to me) and I'm going to ask that they let me drive it for 7days w/ a no questions asked return policy. They have a normal 3 day policy anyway so adding 4 to that shouldn't be a big deal. I'll put enough miles on it in a week to know if they fixed it based on the OASIS it looks like the prev owner only went 600-800 miles btw visits. I'll put about 500-600 on it the 1st week.

Just hope I don't get stranded on my trip. I'm going to pick it up tonight. This is wild - this is less than what I paid for my 2003 F350!!

6 kilobucks was about what they deducted from mine using my Son's employee "D" plan. If the truck was employee owned it may explain how the owner got ford to buy it back. If the warrenty is good I'de chance it

The diesel guy at our local dealer (32 years on diesels motors) when asked, recommended we not use straight synthetic oil in the 6.4's. Think I will go with his and Ford's recommendations in the use of oil.
