I found a dealer buyback 08 - 7800 miles. Apparently the orig owner got pissed @ Ford and got his king ranch bought back. Dealer has been pretty up front with me but they did have to do a ton to this truck. They took 14K off the original (reduced) sticker price. Great deal but reading what all they did to it scares the **** outta me. Didn't get an electroninc copy of the OASIS so, here's a brief rundown on the rept:
@ 2200 miles - Replaced Dash Cluster - in-op lights
@ 3100 miles - Starting issues (Cold) - Rough Running/hesitation - Swapped Batts X2, changed block heater cord
@ 3800 miles - Regen/Starting Concerns/ Rough Running - Repl Fuel Filter, Purged system
@ 4500 miles - Cold Start Issues/Rough idle - Ran GP diagnostic(OK) - repl starter
@ 5100 miles - Starting issues (Cold) - Repl GP (right bank) Repl Wire Harn Left bank.
@ 6500 miles - Starting Issue (Cold) - Repl Fuel Pump & Filter, Replace pick up tube (tank)
I think they finally got it on the last try - suspect the problem all along was with the pick-up tube in the tank. Probably lots of air mixed in with the fuel leading to all the driveablity/starting issues.
Should I run???? Or, cut a deal w/ the dealer - they have stated it will have the warranty intact + they are offering a free extended warranty.
They want 29K for what originally listed out as a 43K truck. Great deal - but am I buying a load of trouble?
The list price of 43k seems awfully cheap for a 08 King Ranch! 29k with a free extended warranty does sound good. I think if it were me that I would go for it.
Hella-of-adeal, still got warranty, if it's what you want go for it......is it 4x4 CC or what? gears? read post here, most 3.73 gears get 14+ avg. some better some worse. If it does the same things to you....maybe you should outline this in the deal so you would have a case to get out if FMC can't get it fixed. search KBB.com and see the value...I don't think you will get hurt...43K for a KR, doesn't sound right....too low, most I've priced were 47K and up.
Forgot to say originally - F350 4X4 SRW KR Ext Cab w/ towing pkg & Lim Skip
43K was the original discounted price. Sticker price was 49K - not sure why the 6k was taken off originally. Dealer was a little vague on this when I asked about the difference. State title application shows the 1st owner took over @ 900 miles. This may explain the 6K discount - Demo? Think the dealer just wants to unload this one at any cost - they've had it on their lot since Dec 3rd. State shows title transfer back to the dealer on the 1st - my guess is the previous owner came in and said give me my $$ back or I'll invoke the lemon law and make you give it back.
I'm going to take the offer @ 29K w/ 2 conditions. (They said ok to these a few minutes ago) They need to note the concerns so that if they come up again within 90days I can get a repair & a loaner truck for free (no deductable or cost to me) and I'm going to ask that they let me drive it for 7days w/ a no questions asked return policy. They have a normal 3 day policy anyway so adding 4 to that shouldn't be a big deal. I'll put enough miles on it in a week to know if they fixed it based on the OASIS it looks like the prev owner only went 600-800 miles btw visits. I'll put about 500-600 on it the 1st week.
Just hope I don't get stranded on my trip. I'm going to pick it up tonight. This is wild - this is less than what I paid for my 2003 F350!!
Just talked w/ the dealer - it'll be ready @ 5:00 for me to pick it up. I requested that they not fill the tank just let me come back in a few days to top it off. I figure if it really was just the tank pickup tube @ a 1/4 tank or less I should start to see signs. (had a cracked tube on a old IDI - ran like crap till I figured it out) My daily trip is roughly 55 miles round trip - it won't take too long to work the tank down to E from a 1/4 tank.
Plan on taking the new truck on a 900mile round trip to NE Ohio - this weekend. Bringing back a stock trailer I loaned to a friend - at least 1 of the directions I will get to test the new 6.4 over the mtns of WV.

When did they start making the King Ranch in ext cab? I have never seen one of these, post some pics when you get a chance if you don't mind.
I paid 29,000 for my 05 KR with 70K, so I would not pass this up, it does after all have any extended bumper to bumper warranty. How long did they say they would extend it?
Congrats on the awesome find, hope the truck doesn't give you any problems.
Oooops my baaad - I should have typed Crew Cab not, Ext cab. I get those two terms mixed up sometimes. Either way the King Ranch is a definate step up for me from the trucks we already have.
Dealer stated they'd tack on 3 yrs or 36K to the std warranty. I haven't seen this in writing yet so it'll be interesting to see how they will document it. My guess is it will be the Ford Premium Extended warranty package zero dollars to me on the sales order.
Dealer didn't offer me much for my 00 (8K) so I declined to trade it in. Figure I'll keep it for a few months then sell it once I feel the new one is doing ok.
Sounds like a steal to me - any chance you can get the 0% financing they're offering. I know normally on a used truck it's not possible, but it may be worth asking for it since it's a Ford buy back. Like I said - I got $25k trade value for my '04 with 80k on the ticker and I paid supplier price AND got the incentive cash back - I thought I stole my truck.
Nope - no zero % for me. Going through a local credit union to finance. T-minus 2.0 hrs till I'm @ the dealer - can't wait. My 1st 'new' truck in 8 years - think I was just a little overdue!
Im not sure if this is a job one truck. If it is there are more issues you could still have and im not sure if you know it. Not trying to bring you down just trying to inform you.
Theres has been issue's as note in TSB's for issues with the radiator tanks leaking and chafing of the engine harness on the high fuel pressure gasket. Which can both be visualy inspected.
I have a Job 1 and havent had any of these issues yet.
That sounds like to good of a deal to walk away from. As long as they are going to give the warranty then you are just taking the same risk everyone else is.
Well picked it up last night - I'm now an official member of the 6.4L club. I've put roughly 80 miles on it since I picked it up. I did get to briefky talk w/ the service mgr before he left for the day. I got quite an interesting story from him on the times this truck was in for work. Sounds like this was the 1st diesel for the previous owner which probably didn't help much as far as the troubleshooting went since he probably couldn't give them much information to go on. He said the owner would complain about rough running & hard starting but they couldn't replicate the symptoms on at least 2 of the visits. In the shop's defense the prev guy would drop it off @ lunch & expect them to have it done @ 5:30 or he'd complain to the dealership owner that they were taking too long.
Regen is a little wierd - kicked in right as I was slowing down for a light & it smoked all the way home. Not used to seeing that much smoke come out of the tailpipe. This is going to take a little getting used to. If one of my 7.3's smoked like that I'd think something was wrong.
Runs quieter than our 7.3's - Dealer filled w/ 5W40 (Rotella) @ the delivery prep oil change.
No mods planned for now - maybe different tires/rims down the road for starters. Now I need to edit my Sig!
