Cool Junk 05 Diesel Excursion

I have an unbelievable or believable piece of JUNK 05 EB 4x4 diesel Excursion. I swear it is haunted or somebody died in it. It is in the shop every other month/week with something new that has broken. I have been a loyal FORD owner since I first new what a vehicle was but this vehicle is on the verge of converting me. This truck has had everything from the front axle rebuilt, engine pulled, interior electrical/trim, drivability (numerous cal updates) to a water fall in the left rear trim panel. I am at my wits end unless someone can convince me.

The final staw is on the camels back. This truck recently left me and my teenage daughters stranded on a dangerous hilly curve on Lelanau Peninsula out side Traverse City Michigan with a 24 foot snowmobile trailer on it. If I had a torch at that time I would have burned it to the ground. Oh by the way it was snowing like crazy and 13 degrees and getting dark!

The latest problem when it failed the engine stated shuddering/missing and chugging until it died. At wide open throttle the engine just choked out and died. No engine lights until it quit. Let it sit about 20 minutes when help arrived unhooked the trailer it started right up and drove another 2 miles same thing w/o the trailer died. Called FORD at that point to come get the piece of crap. Ford dealer had it for three days found nothing. Blamed it on fuel gel. I had stanadyne in the tank plus the other diesel that was up there did not gel. Fueled at the same pump.

Ok it gets better! I picked the truck up and 210 miles later it did the same thing and left us at standed 1:00 in morning. Only difference this time is that it is 27 degrees.

When it fails it shudders(I thought I blew a trailer tire) lose of power and surge at WOT until it chokes out. I had to start this truck several time to get it off of the freeway. I did not want to start(long crank times) and missed like crazy. Dealer has it now and can not find any thing. Any ideas if not I may trade it in on a Suburban! One more thing it only has 28,000 miles. I can't keep it out of the shop to put more miles on it.

Thanks,
Jeff

Hang in there! Trust me I can say this from experience! I have an 04 6.0 Eddie Bauer Ex..... New trans at 9k, new turbo at 17k, 6 oil leaks, warped rotors, scratched front windows, leaking water through the windshield, etc...My Oasis report is like 8 pages now it's just unbelievable! I will say though once all the bugs were fixed I have been able to run from 36k miles to my current 51k miles with no probs which is very surprising! I would find a different dealer to take it too and get that hing fixed up! Mine hasn't been dependable until it was well into it's 4th year of existance! I will say that I currently am having a grinding on decel issue, sounds like a bearing somewhere in the driveline?? Good luck, you probably won't be happy in a Sub! That's what I had right before the EX! No comparison!

Its ur truck, its a lemon. Id have ford buy it back and get another excursion. I have only had 1 prob with mine and it has 124k on it. It was a CPS sensor that went bad. U also may want to look into a v-10.

Go ahead and get another diesel X weather it be a 03 7.3 or a 05 6.0. If you go with the V 10 you will be disappointed

HUH!? It's comments like that really dumb down this board. You'd be hard pressed to find a V10 w/28K miles who has left the owner stranded. And kiddo, since you cannot speak from experience why don't you let us grownups handle the tough questions.

```````````````
I think finding another dealer to do your warranty work is a great suggestion. The 6.0L is problematic but most problems have a "cure" that a competent mechanic should be able to fix.
The front axle being rebuilt is puzzling. The hubs are know to fail if not maintained (even though Ford doesn't post a maintenance schedule) but the axle itself is fairly solid for the Excursion's intended mission.
The rear window leak sounds like a stuck motor or trim that needs a little silicone.
THANK YOU!!! My 00 V-10 is on it's second motor, yes, second. The first had 197,000 miles on it and started blowing oil so the motor was swapped for an 03 V-10 with 56k on it. Other than that this X has NEVER left me stranded. This X has pulled many a semi truck in it's life so don't even start doubt the power of the V-10. So, keep lame statements like this to yourself if you have nothing to back it up. This is a great board here, don't turn it into a trash board!
I just bought a new to me '03 V10 Ex with 80k and thought I'd do a diesel swap. After driving the beast for a few weeks I'm not so sure about the swap. That engine is a monster and the mpgs I'm getting are within a mile or two of the much smaller Dodge Durango Hemi work truck I've got.
In short, I'm diggin the V10.
I have to agree with Monsta here..... if he had a V10 this subject wouldn't even exist. And he wouldn't be paying 25% more on each gallon of fuel he buys. But the best policy is that every subject doesn't really need to turn into a diesel vs gas debate.
It really sounds as if you have water in your fuel which freezes when the vehicle is outdoors. Once it's in the shop and warmed up, everything checks fine. It would not have to have come from your last tank of fuel, could have been in there a while and just now reached a critical spot where it can freeze and plug up the fuel supply. The fact that if you wait a few minutes, you can drive it a little bit leans toward a fuel supply problem.
Well acutely I am talking from experience. My dads fire house had a 2002 F 550 wild land truck that had the V 10 in it within 2 years it blew 7 out of the 10 spark plugs costing $$$ in prepares. 1 month later they got a 2003 F 550 with the 6.0 and so far the only thing wrong with it has been a EGR and 1 injector. Also I am sorry I did not mean to **** you off Ken, VaSheriff, or Downriver Thunder all I was trying to say was he might be disappointed going from a Diesel to Gas thats all. I got nothing against either engine.
Yeah, i must say... While i have only been on this board for about 3 months now and have owned my X for about the same amount of time, this re-occurring debate about which is best is a real annoyance and truly degrades the attractiveness of an online forum. While there is merit in discussing the pros and cons of both, just because i own a V10 does not make the Diesels "Crap"!!!!!
To each his own i say and as far as i am concerned neither is crap.
U may have seen a bad v-10. But how many bad v-10s are their compared to bad 6.0s? Not nearly as many. Also u may have experience with seeing a bad v-10, but have u actually driven a v-10 before?
BTW, if the op can find a good 6.0 that hasnt had problems, then go buy it. But if the OP can find a low mileage v-10, then id tell him to look into it. Also i was lookin in the truck trader for a pickup. I found a 05 v-10 4x4 eddie bauer excursion with 12k on the odo! I forget the price but it I THINK it was goin for 22k. Ill have to check on that. Its in cleveland ohio.
I wouldn't judge a V10 by that. Emergency vehicles are fired up and run ***** to the wall
on a regular basis. I am surprised it didn't blow out 12 plugs in a V10.
