Can anyone tell me what is the largest tire size I can put on my 2005 Ex 4wd. We are going to change wheels but will probably try to stay with 16" on the rims.
I know a lot of people run larger tires, but just look at how very small the clearance is with stock tires and tell me what you think. Turn your wheel all the way to lock in one direction and look at how close the edge of the tread is to the inner fender, and the front leaf spring.
The previous owner of mine had put 305 70 16s on the truck. There was a nice shiny spot on the spring, the tire was almost hitting the ABS line going to the brakes, and the there is some rub damage in the plastic inner fender, almost through the plastic.
You may be able to get a little wider with a bit more offset on a different wheel.
I'm running 325/60/18 Nitto Terra-Grapplers on Procomp Squadrant wheels. 18x9 with a 5'' backspacing.I did have a slight rub issue in the wheel wells but over came this by heating the liner with a heat gun and using a shovel. After heating the problem area I wedged a rounded shovel head between the liner and the tire to contour it. I took a couple of hours but worked great. They do,however rub the leaf springs at full crank. Nature of the beast. Be careful about using too much back spacing. This puts an incredible amount of pressure on the wheel and can compromise towing capacity and wheel longevity.(they will crack in the webbing). I'll try to get some pics put on here to show the final results.

Are you using backspacing on ur rims or are u using spacers? If ur using spacers, theose will eat ur front end up.
