Proactive Ball Joint Maintenance

Is there anything that can be done to a F250 to help prevent the ball joints from wearing out at 60,000 (or so) miles?

Has anyone tapped the knuckles and installed zerk fittings, etc.?

Thanks.
Dave.

I'd just wait and replace them with greasable Moog ball joints when the time comes.

That's it. Just wait and replace. If you have a dealer or shop do the work, make sure they install fittings in both the upper and lower joints. The upper one will need a 45 deg. fitting to get to it around the axle u-joint.

There is nothing saying they are going to go out around 60k. Some guys have issues some dont. I replaced my ball joints at 155k. Like has been said, Just run the factory ones until they need to be replaced and put a set of moogs in w/ zerks.

Yes I have read of guys drilling and tapping them for zerks. Don't know if it made them last a lot longer, but it's got to help.

Wouldn't this risk getting metal fragments or burrs in the joint?

Just use a grease injection needle. Jab the needle through the rubber and pump the grease in. Works for all joints that don't have zerks.

Mine are fine at 70k, most of that with 315's. The needle is my plan too, but I 've been to lazy to do it.

After I drilled and tapped mine , I used a magnet from a drain plug to remove the small shavings .

I read a post about Moog QC going down and the poster used a different brand of ball joints. I can't recall what they were though... I think it started with an A
