Alternatives to BFG A/T's?
Just about time to get rid of the slip -n- slide BFG Rugged Trail(!) tires that came stock on my '05 F-250. Based on what I've read here and elsewhere, I'm thinking BFG A/T's in 285-70R17 (about an inch wider and taller than the 265's on it now, according to BFG's website) on the stock rims. Unfortunately, these things are close to $200 a pop - just wondering if there is a decent on/off road tire for less $$$?

Check out Prime Well, I put 4 305/70's on my rig for $650 installed. I've hauled and been offroad with them, and I'd say they're as good as you're gonna get for less than 200 for a good on/off road tire. Little bit of a hum on the highway, but not as bad as i've had in the past with other tires.

The Revos are real road grabbers. I've had them on both my Ex and now my F250, and love 'em. They hum a little bit at 25-45 mph, but very little perceptible road hum at highway speeds. They go through water on the road like it's not even there.
Downside... about $1050 installed, mounted, balanced.
OH... and all this is for the 285x75R16's on stock rims.

You will find it very difficult to find anything for less that gives the same performance and mileage. Not that there isn't anything out there, because I know where you're coming from, but there isn't a lot for less money. I ended up with $1000 for four tires for my truck, so $800 for four tires seems like a pretty good price.

Cooper Discoverer S/T if you want something more aggressive like the BFG AT.
Cooper Discoverer ATR for a more stock appearance and slightly quieter tire. Both have great treadwear qualities.
The ATR and S/T are not a bad price until you get up to the size that I am installing of 275/70R18 and then it gets pricey.

Guess the $975 or so I was quoted from the local Belle Tire for the BFG's isn't so bad! Apparently the BFG A/Ts are only D rated (in that size, anyway) but that's not that big of a deal for me.
FWIW, the local store was cheaper than Tire Rack even with Michigan's 6% sales tax. Must be those big ad's in Car and Driver every month
Thanks all!

I was running Goodyear Mtrs on my Bronco. Great offroad tire but did not last as long as the BFGs AT.
Now I'am running the ProComp AT. So far good street tire and OK off roader.
I choose the ProComps by price "35/12.50Rx15 $176.99" and by milage "50,000 Mile Treadware Warranty".
Only problem was a side wall puncture. Thin side walls for off roading.
As soon as I get another daliy driver the Broncos getting another set of Goodyears. 37/12.50Rx15
