I have a 2001 f250 with a 7.3 and I was woundering if you guys heard of and or put sea foam moter treatment in any of your engines and what does it actually do.
Never heard of that stuff...it claims it can de-ice, sort of like Diesel 911.
Be really weary of "snake oil" type treatments. Even if it doesn't hurt your motor or injectors like Ron said, it's most likely a complete waste of money.
If you want something that will clean, lubricate, and work as an anti-gel, stick with DK in the white bottle, we know it works just fine.
I used to put it in my gasser, took the vacuume hose from the intake and stuck it in the bottle .it cleans the valve and cly. Dont think you could use it on our engine.
I've heard lots of wonderful things about the stuff from the gasser world. I've heard some recommend it for diesels, but when I gave it the sniff test it smells like alcohol. I figure there's got to be a good reason all the diesel additive bottles say "Contains no alcohol"
Seafoam is an excellent product...very highly touted in the Mercedes circles for valves and cylinders...cleaning carbon away etc. I'ved used it in my Mercedes and BMW with very good results...178k on my BMW and getting close to 300K on the Mercedes.
Works great on a gasser. As previously stated. About twice a year put half a bottle in the brake booster and the other half in the tank. It will smoke like a beotch pushing all the soot and carbon out. The truck WILL run better after that. We have gas trucks at work over 300,000 with very poor maintenance. It certainly CAN NOT be hurting the truck.
With that being said, we have never used it in a diesel. We usually run Lucas oil's product for "cleaning" the carbon out of a smoker.
We sell Sea Foam at our Case-IH dealership. It is safe for both gas and diesel as an oil and fuel additive. I use it in my tractor(gas) and my work truck (also gas). I have not used it in my PSD but just because I started with DK and have used it ever since.
I've used it and others will chime in too. After changing the fuel filter, I toss a 1/2 can into the bowl and turn the key on to fill the rest of the bowl up w/ fuel. Supposed to clean deposits off. I've never noticed a difference and don't do it anymore. I just run fuel and ashless 2 cycle oil now.
I de-carb'b my 77' outboard with seam foam and then swapped head gaskets. All the cylinders were perfectly clean. absolutely amazing. Also works as a stabilizer for boats or chainsaws that will sit for awhile. I put that S#$& in everything, except my Powerstroke.
I'm not a fan of Sea Foam as a stabilizer. It has alcohol in it, and alcohol attracts water, which I would not like to have happening in storage. I think it does an ok job of cleaning stuff though, but I wouldn't use it in a diesel.
Wouldn't put it in a PSD. Seafoam is about 40% Naptha (a solvent) and Isopropyl alcohol. The rest is just a light petroleum oil. It probably makes a good fuel conditioner/injector cleaner for most engines, but the potential is there to kill a HEUI injector.
