Header Gasket Recommendation

I was wondering what others have used for header gaskets and had good luck with. I wan't a set that will let me a while. I have the Sanderson Headers for the 400 2V heads. There are quite a few choices so I want to get something that is good. The entire exhaust system will be all new so no need to skimp now on the gasket.

I'm running Sanderson headers on my 400. Make sure you got the copper "adapter" plate-gasket from Sanderson, as those headers are probably for 4v heads and won't seal correctly to 2v heads. As for a gasket, I don't use any with mine. I used Permatex 598b as prescribed by Sanderson headers. I believe it has been rebadged as "ultra black" now. Check with Sanderson and see what they recommend. I have never had a leak as it seals up great!

EDIT: Read this article on Sanderson's website, they recommend Permatex "ultra black".

I am surprised they didn't ask or mention the head gasket to me. Well I guess tomorrow I will call them up to see about this adapter.

I only realized it after I compared the old exhaust manifold surface to the header surface. The headers they use are for the 4v heads on a 351C. The bolt patterns are the same but the exhaust ports are larger and do not seal up correctly, thus the needed plates. The permatex they recommend for use as a gasket does work great, that much I can tell you. Good luck.

I have Sanderson FC-3 headers on my CHI-3V heads. I just use the high temperature silicone to seal them. No leaks.

Well thanks for letting me know this. Tomorrow I will call them up and see how much this adapter will cost me. I just happen to have bought a tube of the Black RTV high temp gasket maker today so I have that already. Won't be long until I have the old truck running and sounding good.
