I can not be for sure, but I believe it does increase noise as well as resistance. I have an '03 XLT Sport and to be honest, I would rather not have that useless no boundaries roof rack.
There's no cargo net. If you lower the rack and snap it onto the rear bumper you can fasten a bike or something to the back. Otherwise, the roof rack is std. Plus the damn front wind blocker thing really screws up trying to lash down something long.... let's say a kayak or something.
If you do alot of outdoor activities or go camping alot the no boundaries rack could be pretty useful. Back to the question though, I guess it might be a little louder but to be perfectly honest the wind noise at highway speeds in any escape is pretty loud compared to other cars. I just turn up the radio and the wind seems to quiet down a bit.
Thanks for the replies. I test drove the vehicle at highway speeds and didn't notice any howling coming from the rack. The Continental tires seem to be pretty loud though.
Yea, the Conti's suck. There are about 2,950,123 threads about how loud the Conti's are. Unfortunately, they last forever delaying the necessity of replacing them.
