Fuel Prices

Why is the price for Diesel $.68 more a gallon (Hess) when:
Ø You get more gallons of Diesel then gas out of a barrel of crude oil<O></O>

Ø Diesel is cheaper to refine (including the filtration to produce Ultra-Low Sulfur Diesel)<O></O>

Ø Petroleum supplies are higher now in the US then they have been in a long time.<O></O>

Ø Why has Diesel prices raise $.30 a gallon in the last two weeks<O></O>

One off the biggest questions here is what this is going to do to inflation. As you know just about everything in the US is hauled by truck at some point. The snowball effect of these prices will make the current Economic Stimulus package a mute point.

I guess my point was missed. I was not talking about the price, but the difference in price between gas and diesel. Diesel is cheaper to produce, there is less demand for it and more supply at the moment, but the price is 67 cents higher a gallon, and has risen 30 cents in the last two weeks?????????????????????????????

On my way to work this morning I saw gas at around $3.19/gal and Diesel at $4.09/gal!!! WTF?!?!?!!?????? I was informed it takes 2 LESS steps to make diesel than it does gasoline. There is more involved to make gas then there is to make diesel, and diesel is MORE expensive. I CANT COMPRIHEND!!!!!!!!!

Unfortunately that is not true. There actually has been an increased demand for it. Just look at how many people get diesel just to have a diesel even despite prices of fuel etc.(I have a diesel because I need it for work and because I wanted it so I've got the best of both worlds). More and more vehicles are coming with diesel engines and they are bringing them back into cars, so there is in fact a much more demand for them. You also have to remember that diesel competes with heating fuel now(even though it has always gotten higher because of that, it hasn't gotten this high granted, but getting higher then normal is to be expected in the winter).

This one is not true either. Here is a page that shows what a barrel of crude yields.

Hey, we all feel it. RUL gas today is $3.49 while ULSD is $4.05. I just don't see a point to grousing about it. Actually, I'm feeling kind of proud that CA is not that much higher than the rest of the country. We usually get screwed the deepest but this time the pain is spread around.

One of the overlooked reason for high diesel cost is how we in the US refine our oil I forgot the exact method but, in Europe they use a method that makes more diesel and less gasoline. In the US our refineries are setup to make more gas and less diesel.

Ha, you funny!

It'll have to get a hell of a lot higher than this for that to happen.

seems like all stations are about the same. We are 3.39 for unleaded and 3.99 for diesel. Usually this part of the state is hit with transportation fees of 10-20 cents per gallon.

As for demand, well, I had to work outside today, close to a very main country intersection, i noticed that there were more diesel pickups than cars going by. I am pretty sure the demand is there. I could not belive how many diesel trucks, and these guys were still driving hard, only a few were actually taking it easy.

i've been reading alot on the forum about the high price of diesel, alot of reasons but no one has suggested all the diesel that's being burned up in iraq with all our military vehicles. just another reason to ponder.

Only 13% of vehicle's on america's highway's are diesel. Something's wrong here. And also in Iraq, i would say the fuel is coming from right there. diesel owners are getting gouged, you won't be able to give your truck away if it don't get under control!!
