A friend of mine has a 99 SD F250 with the 6.8L motor. He recently had his plugs changed (about 6 or 8 months ago). Last week while driving it out of the parking lot at work, it blew out a plug. It was the rider's side plug in the rear (under fire wall). His mechanic repaired it using a Heli-coil. He uses this truck for his business often pulling a trailer. Question is, can he continue to rely on the Heli-coil repair to hold? Also, how likely is it that one of the others will blow out? He is thinking of dumping the truck for this reason. Do any of you "experts" have any advice? What would you guys do? It is a 99 with 130K miles.
thanks-
Carpy
He may have other problems later on. There is a specific procedure to follow that minimizes the chances of a spark plug blowing out of the head, including using a torque wrench to tighten the plugs to 17 ft/lbs (no more). If that procedure was not followed, look for other plugs to depart the engine.
