No power Help
2003, F250, 4X4, Crew cab, 6.0 LT Diesel, Automatic 6 speed, manufactured 04-03. Current mileage, 159560 miles. No outstanding recalls according to the Ford site. Have had the truck for a couple of months and put 3000 miles on it, then it started acting up.
The problem:
Engine will not rev over 1200 rpm, in park, hard to start after sitting a few days, it is cold her in Missouri. When truck is put in gear after engine has reached near operating temperature it will barely pull its self, no power, but is idling fine. The engine does miss some when it first is started and after a bit the rev actuator brings the engine up to 1000 rpm, and drops back to about 750 rpm when the brake pedal is pushed. There are no indicator lights lit on the instrument panel. There is no smoke poring out when it starts, or after it has bean idling. The engine when first started sounds like an air compressor, then after a little running sounds like a diesel engine should when idling.
What I have done so far:
I changed oil and filter, Ford filter from the dealer, and Rotela 15-40.
New STP air cleaner.
I have bean using Power Services fuel supplement + cetane boost as an anti jell agent. (white bottle)
Fuel has come from a truck stop Quiktrip, which sells the ultra low sulfur at its big truck pumps and the new double ultra low sulfur (for 2007 models) at its smaller pumps. I have put both types of fuel in the truck it just depends on where I find the first pump available.
I was going to drain the water separator but could not get the Allen wrench to break it loose, so before I broke something I stopped. I unplugged the EGR valve and no change in the problem. I checked the fuses, and the only one that was blown was for the trailer battery charging system. I wiggled wiring harnesses under the hood and checked plugs all no help.
Please help me figure this problem out. At $99.00 per hour at the dealer for diagnoses and a commitment of 1 to 3 hours just to find the problem I could go broke.
