New Tire Selection help

Hi all, I have a 06 that's in need of new shoes, and as much as I love them Contrac (HA HA) I want someting new. I have two in mind.

Goodyear Silant 275-75-r18 $993.00 out the door
Cooper Discover ATR 275-70-r18 $863.00 out the door.

Any opinion on these or something esle??

Thanks

I like the looks of the Goodyears better but I think the ATR's would kick some serious butt in the snow. Over all I think the GY would be my choice over the ATR. If I knew how the Cooper SST handled in the snow I would get that over the Goodyear's.

I know that didn't help much but I am still undecided as well.

285R65*18 inch BFG A/T KO E rated for 3400 lbs per tire. They work great in the snow and mud for an A/T. Not cheap. Will let you know on lifespan, 8000km and counting.

After hearing some bad stories about treadwear on BFG tires I am trying to decide between the Cooper Discoverer ATR and the Cooper Discoverer S/T. It looks like I'm going with the S/T even though they are a bit pricier. They come in load range E and size 275/70R18. I suggest you get a price on the S/T from your dealer to see first. I like the look of the S/T but expect it to be noisier than the ATR.

I like my Pirelli Scorpion ATR's. If you go to tirerack.com you can see side by side comparisons with different tires.

The BFG tires wear like iron. My Rugged Trails have 33k and still look new. A friend has a Dodge/Cummins with the TA/KOs, 25k miles on it, the tires look pristine.

I strongly suggest you visit Tire Rack (link at top right) and see what they have for your truck. You don't need to buy from them, but the consumer rating for each tire, ranking per group and consumer reviews (which can be sorted by vehicle) are very useful in selecting a set of new tires.

When I was looking last fall, IIRC the Toyo M/T spec'd the tallest(33.6") of the 275/70R18 tires. If size matters to you......
