that may be true but can you safely do that? For 2000 miles? Just because you can doesn't mean you should.
thats what our 99 did for 215,000 miles. in its first 100,000 its hauled big loads of gates on a big trailer. it was a hoss. i am not advising to do so, but we have done it successfully for years.
speaking of what they can do- the guy at a local trucking company has spotted loaded fullsize box trailers sometimes with a 350 crew cab flat bed. i agree, cause it can dont mean you should.
With 25k BEHIND the truck, thats almost 34k total. With that weight and 3.55s, you couldnt keep 55mph without searching for a gear continuously. I haul a 18k backhoe with a 3500 lb trailer, and its all my 1 ton wants and stops relatively safely.
As far as the loaded boxes go, yeah they do that, load em with furniture or whatever and get apportioned plates. combined they are weighted for 22k, and in ohio, legally thats as much as you can go with a 1 ton I believe.
no, i mean he hauled bulk groceries, canned goods, ect. he would move 40,000# loaded reefers and box traiers just around his lot. like up to the shop to service trailers, ect.
Well that local trucking company is run by some real idiots. If he was spotting using that truck and it broke a leaf and caused landing gfear damage, or if cargo inside was damaged, he could be sued and lose his butt. Its amazing to me what some stupid people will do. Willing to risk everything that they have worked for because of ignorance.
I hate to sound off on this, but we own a small trukcing fleet as do a couple others in here and they too can tell you how you can get your butt whooped on in the court of law for mishandling freight, especially if your moving loaded containers with a truck not inteded to do so.
its good to know its rated capacity beocuse you can get yourself in big trouble if you get in an accident while hauling over your rated capacity becouse 1 your at fault no matter who caused the accident 2 your insurance company may deny coverage for the accident becouse you were overloaded, yes these trucks will haul about anything you can put in them or behind them esp with 4.10's but is it legal is the question
Ya, back to the original question,
and to quote TJ from this question when i asked it:
It'll tow about 10K off the hitch and 15K off a gooseneck/5th wheel.
But you have to keep in mind what you are capable of handling.
10K behind a truck is a lot more to keep in mind.
