Now I'm looking at a truck (not made by ford) but is a very good deal 2000 4x4 3door stepside, 5.3, 105xxx $6000
I was not able to get a loan for either Truck.

So now I must fix the car up a little to make the trip back to branson on a bi-weekly bases.
the car is a 94 cavalier 2.2 coupe 281,000 miles the last 60,000 on a salvage engine

the easy stuff I have under control new brakes, lower ball joint, struts.

But the problem is the car stutters and I have know clue why.
I have been told the car has studderd for atleast 80,000 miles on both the new and old engine, 20,000 of the miles I have driven it. The thing is, it does not do it all the time.

Things I have tried :
NEW PARTS: TPS, plugs, wires, all filters, Pvc,O2,

cleaned parts: intake throttle body, mass air flow, and more

I need thoughts

IAC valve.

(Well, it's a thought!!)

That's what caused my Escort to stumble, stutter, and hunt for a happy rpm range. It wasn't expensive ($20ish) or hard to do.

I'm not sure how to test 'em tho...

thanks Terry
I have cleaned the IAC it dose seem to be working most of the prop. is when moving at a constant throttle and speed. you can power right through the stutters.

Well, next up, I'd put a tester on the fuel line and see if you're getting constant pressure...a little variance will wreak havoc...after that, start chasing vacuum lines with a can of WD-40.

Red face

Do you feel the shutter when te car is in park, or is it when the car is in gear? If it's done this with two different engines, it sounds like a tranny issue.
In K.C. we had Cottman transmission shops, and would do a free diagnostic on a tranny. Could it be a tranny thing?

GM's are notorious for fuel pump problems. the pressure test would be a good start. zotherwise, make sure there is no vacuum leaks. If there are no codes setting, you will have to try to find non-computer fixes. If you have access to a scan tool, you could watch the computer sensor signals to see if you can find a problem. Something else zI have seen is the coolant temp sensor fails intermittant, giving a false reading of the engine being cold, changing the fuel map. This many times does not set a code.

Distributor cap and rotor? I chased a cracked distributor cap on a 92' Grand-am for weeks, did about the same thing yours is doing. I guess it was getting an occasional moisture intrusion and causing it to misfire until it dried off again.

No cap on the 2.2, just coil packs. Could a coil, for that matter, if they reused the same from the old motor.

It could be the coil, but I wouldn't make the my fist part to replace. I'd go on with the fuel pressure checks the other posters suggested and then come back to the coil if all else fails. If it were the coil, I would expect it to be a more constant problem, or a complete failure.

Hmmm. No codes...stutters at cruise but not under load.... I presume that it has an intank electric pump with a screen. The could be some debris in or on the pickup that is causing a fluctuation in fuel delivery.
