I have been doing some reading on this subject and was curious what the no BS deal is. Does manually controlling the TC help or hinder MPG? I am curious since I have had issues with mine since I have owned it. What type of issues could I encounter if I decide to do it?
I just did one on mine don't think it'll help mpg any if it did wouldn't be notice able. There shouldn't be any issues if you wait till your doing atleast 35 befor you turn it on and remeber to turn it off if you forget it will stall the truck.
The biggest benifit i can see is it stops shift flaring of the torque converter. Basicly your tourqe converter will lock up in 3rd then un lock shift to fourth and lock again. if its manualy locked the converter wont lock then unlock wich will limit slip. Also on a turbo aplication you wont loose as much boost when you kick down pluss it will remove what feels like hesitation on the down shift since it one releas the torque converter wich causes an increas in rpm then doum shift then lock the converter back up.
Also there is a lot of info on this in the 94-97 powerstroke forum just search tc lock
I'm realy pleased with how mine works let me know if you need in fo on how to do it.
Heres a couple links on how toos for mine I found the purpule with yellow tracer by un hooking the conector from the trans modual on the fire wall. I alos wired mine differently I have one LED that comes on when the TC is locked by either me or the computor. Let me know if you want to wire it that way.
The wire you want is the purpule with yellow tracer wire comming off the grey conector on the fire wall. The second link should work for anything with an E4OD. But I found it was easyer to pull the conector at the fire wall lift the harness up and digg threw all the wires find it splice it then reconect the conector.
Yes if you cut it the trans controller wouldn't be able to lock the torque converter I've been thinking about running another swich to keep it from locking when towing but I'm woried it may put the trans in limp mode.

why do you want to cut the wire?
Welcome to FTE.
I was trying to figure out if it was the signal that locked it or lack there of. My truck is having issues with the trans when i come down from 55mph it starts to surge at 45mph from 500rpms to 1500rpms. I think the converter is sticking. It also lugs and 30mph.
Mine wont surge at 45 but it wont lock up untill 35 unless I'm real light on the throtle. So it may be worth a try remeber to tape off the end of the wire and I would recomend soldering it back together when your done.
Ok, I completed the manual lockup. It does not liek to shift gears with the TC unlocked. The light started blinking. I am going to reset it and use the auto mode until I get to OD......
