On my dash the light for the brakes are one saying something isnt right. REcently I replaced the master cylinder and the vacuum pump on the truck. The light has been on since I had the truck. Somebody told me that cruise control would make it come on? The cruise control dont work in my truck. How do I un hook all that? Id just like to get that light on the dash to not be on. Would the light be on if I need to bleed the brakes?
the light usually signifies two things, either the parking brake or a loss of pressure at the switch on the distribution block, check both of these switches. The CC would not do it as far as I know, the switch for the brake actuation on the cruise control is operated by vacum.
The E-Brake switch is located at the top of the pedal bracket, and the pressure switch is usually on the distro block, down below the M/C. The lines from the M/C should go to it before making their merry way around the truck.
What Archion is calling distro block is the proportioning valve. A loss of pressure on either the front or rear brakes causes an internal sliding piston to cover the outlet ports on the loss of pressure side and activate the warning light. I'd guess your rear brakes aren't (or weren't at some time) working. It can also be caused during bleeding brakes if the pedal is pushed to rapidly.
I dont know if this helps but I replaced all the brake fluid and the back resivor is all nice and clean color but the front resivor is all nasty looking.
Well, fist make sure your e-brake isnt tripping the light. AFter that, if it is really due to the brakes, and you are positive they are all working, I know when I had to bleed my front brakes, I had to crack the line forthe back brakes at the master cylinder slightly, and since the pressure drops slightly then, the light will go off. Then, retighten the line.
If your setup is the same as my 88 there is a white float in the master cylinder reservoir that may be stuck in a lower position indicating that you are low on fluid therfore setting off the indicator light. If it is stuck dislodge it with a light tap and it should float back to the top of the reservoir. This happened to me when flushing the brake fluid.
Today when bleeding my brakes I see the PO used a damn piece of rubber gas line for the brake line from the front fuel tank back to the rear end!!!! I about craped my pants when I seen that! Im about to call that guy up and call him an IDIOT! Can someone say Death trap?
Good thing he said the vacuum pump was bad in it or else we probably would of driven it home, now im glad I spent that $105.00 to get it towed. Rather spend that than rick my life!!
Yea im almost a hundred percent sure thats why. Actually I haven't had the time to do it this week, but today were going out to get the brake line to fix it.
