I am gonna find out my #'s on my 351C 2V heads tomarrow, but were on the head do I look for them?
I already know it is a 74, and it is a 2V, but mainly need to know the cc size. Also who knows how to decode them? I will repost after i check if someone wants to tell me what they mean. thanx alot guys
I believe all the 2v "M" and Cleveland head are 78 to 82 cc. As I recall the casting number is under the head next to the exhast. I don't think you can see it without taking it off. Some of them may be under the valve cover.
Casting ID codes for all 351C heads are located on the intake side, below the ports. Casting codes for all M-block (351M/400) heads are located on top of the head.
To see the ID codes on a 351C head, you must remove the intake manifold. To see the ID codes on an M-block head, you must remove the valve cover.
All 351C heads are identified externally by a "2" or "4" casting mark (representing 2V or 4V heads) on the top, upper corners of the cylinder head, just outside the valve cover. M-block cylinder heads have either no mark or an "M" mark in that location.
Chamber volume of 351C 2V heads is advertised at 76.2cc. Chamber volume for M-block heads is advertised at 78.4cc, but I have measured several M-block cylinder heads with different volumes.
I listed some M-block cylinder head chamber volumes I measured in this post:
