OK, there is a 4bbl carb to 2bbl intake adaptor available in Australia, made by Redline, not sure if it's available in the States or if it will fit the 400 intake... however, there is something you should know:
An article I have tests different induction systems on an otherwise stock 351C 2V... with a 4bbl carb and adaptor on the 2bbl intake the motor lost power through the midrange and only gained a few hp up high in the range. However, even with ford australia's factory 2v 4bbl intake and the same 4bbl carb, power went up about 30hp (from 200 or so). Ie, it is WELL WORTH getting a 4bbl manifold, like an Edelbrock Performer, if you are going to upgrade to a 4bbl carb.
I wouldnt bother putting a 4bbl carb on there without changing the intake manifold as well; not worth it.
He is right I used one of those 2v to 4v carb adapters for a short time when my 2 barrel craped out and I didn't have the time or place to change the manifold on my old 400 which was bone stock. When I did change it and slaped a two inch spacer under the carb it made a definite difference. the spacer does very little to nothing for you if you don't want to change manifolds then a 2barrel holley will make some improvement. If you have the funds change the manifold you won't be dissapointed.
