Dan, I just spoke to Mustangs Plus in Stockton, they do not re-arch springs. Basically, they sell springs that they purchase from distributors. Steve

Things have gotten very expensive - and most shop rates are $100 an hour or more now. Asking for a price over the phone the shop would have no option but to figure the price based on everything new, and standard shop rates for the R and R.

You are correct,Clint. Two of the recommended shops do no repair or re-arching,only selling new springs. Those are Betts Springs, and Mustangs Plus.I'm waiting on estimates-even worst case scenario ones from Eberwain's and Sacramento Spring.I need a budget to aim for,as I'm gonna save the money and pay cash.I realize on some things, you either pay or do without.Never one to begrudge an honest man making an honest living,I also realize there are sometimes wide variations in price for essentially the same jobs.I am always willing to pay top prices if the work is top-shelf,I consider it money well spent.Steve.

Hmmm, interesting...I wonder if that's a recent development because I believe they used to do it. Must be cheaper and easier just to buy the ready-made springs nowadays...

When you get a price from Sac Spring Would you let us
know if its high, low, or whatever. I have heard their very
good but don`t know how competitive they are.
THANKS

They recomended Betts Spring in San Leandro (sp).

If you use them and they are as good as he thought they would be, please add them to the recomended shops list!
I used Betts spring in San Leandro for my RV. They are awesome. I told them what I wanted, made a appointment for a couple days later. Drove the RV over there early in the morning, dropped her off. I had breakfest over the hill at Carl's and shopped a little at Home Depot and Walmart. Then, went back and pickup up my RV with the perfect spring set up for towing and running down the road unloaded. Ran that RV though all sorts of stuff and sold it 5 years later. Never a squeak or issue. They are great !!! Oh, and the price was right too. I think I'd make a trip down there and show them what you have and see if you can modify it for your needs. New springs should be around $800-1000 installed. Mine rearched and installed for $500. I can see 20% to that price for the time difference...... So, $600 now for rearched and installed is about right. I'll ask my local Truck repair shop and see what he recommends. He is really, really fair and know where to get fair prices on stuff.

Good Luck !!!

Gary is right; the West Sac location has a good rep around these parts. I have talked with them in the past about re-arcing a set of springs. They told me that it would be in the $500 range site unseen. That's been acouple of years though. Good luck, John

How about Eaton Detroit?

I just checked the Eaton Detroit website. They listed two different rear spring sets for your truck that were around $450 and $550 for a pair, plus delivery. They claim to have over 16000 blueprints of all makes and models and can make custom springs too. It would be nice to have new springs that you don't have to worry about cracks and such...

If you're getting price quotes for a grand or more to do the work you want, seems to be you'd be ahead of the game buying new and just replacing...no blasting/extra labor needed.

Tell ya what, if you're up for a drive, just buy the new stuff and head on over and we'll have you're springs swapped out in just a hour or two, I'd suggest buying new ubolts and nuts ahead of time.

It's not a lot of work, I figure about 3 beers worth of time

Mike, thanks for the offer.I am getting quotes of 1300.00 and up for new springs, less the bushings and without installation.I spoke with Kevin @ Sacramento Spring a few minutes ago. He'll call me tomorrow with a firm estimate for all parts and labor, but he assures me it should be far less than that.Hopefully I'll also hear from Eberwein's tomorrow, but it's clear I'll be re-arching my present springs as opposed to purchasing new ones. Both places did recommend removing a few leafs,as my truck has the extra heavy springs and I don't ever intend hauling heavy loads.Steve

Not a problem, hate to see someone spend more than needed...did you read Campell56's post? Looks like a new spring set could be at your doorstep for way less that your quoted prices.

But maybe we (just for the technical aspect) should stand back for a second, and ask why you think need new springs?

Is one side sagging/sitting lower than the other?

Have to keep in mind in the most part...springs carry the weight, shocks give you the ride quality (for leafs, coils are a different story).

That's awesome..... I'd go this way for sure unless you found a set in the junkyard that were exactly what you wanted and those didn't need a re-arch.

Is the rearch for a special lift or something? Have you thought about talking to companies like Rancho, Procomp, etc....

Here's a cheap option $69 It will stiffen the ride slightly. But, my bet is not enough must would care in a Truck.

http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?autofilter=1&part=EXP%2D13122&N=700 +4294908331+4294908309+4294923714+115&autoview=sku2D13120&N=700+115&autoview=sku

I'm looking up complete springs for your truck for cheap right now.

Bit difficult without dimensions can you give width / eyelet / arch ??? a quick dwg post to thread would help too. I found some stuff close but, don't want to go any further without details..... Well, really can't sice I do not have a '59. I'll use the ones off of Eaton sight until I hear back.

Here is what Eaton said on your springs:

I just spoke with Kevin @ Sacramento Spring. His estimate to totally rebuild all four springs is (worst case scenario)-900.00,but likely close to 800.00.That's parts and labor.Still waiting to hear from Eberwein's,but I'm probably going to ue Sacramento Spring based on they're reputation.Gonna leave it up to his judgment on how many leafs to delete to improve the ride,as i won't be carrying a lot.Steve
