Best filter for that is a Frantz oil filter...filters down to point 5 micron...or half a micron. The Frantz uses a specially wound toilet paper roll (cost 1 buck each) use their roll only as its designed for maximum filtration. goto We Filter It for more information....i would not burn any waste motor oil unless it was first filtered to take out most of the carbon...carbon can be as hard as diamonds and i would think would cause premature injector wear and cylinder/ring wear. Most fuel filters work down to about the 5-10 micron level, still not good enough for me when it comes to carbon. If you get a Frantz filter specify it be for FUEL cause it will have bigger inlet/outlet ports. The Frantz was originally designed as a bypass oil filter which by the way is a great system as most oil filters are not really filters more like a sieve to catch bigger particles. If that oil filter clogs on most OEM vehicles the filter is designed to allow oil to flow passed it and bypass the filter. Some people claim their oil stays looking like new using this Frantz filter. Last I checked they cost aprox 150 bucks for the bypass oil filter kit...might be less if for fuel systems.

on another note we burn waste oil here to heat the house through a waste oil boiler system. We always pump the oil keeping the wand off the bottom of the drum by at least 3-4 inches cause most the crud and water is at bottom of the drum. Inline on the pump hoses is a NON BYPASS oil filter mount and a NON-BYPASS type HYDROLIC oil filter...NON BYPASS FILTER ALSO...this way when that filter clogs we know to change it....then after that stage if you wanted to burn it in your truck I would then filter it again using the Frantz. The Frantz might have to be rigged up to a lower flow (gallons per min) oil pump like furnaces use. Just transfer and filter XX gallons into another empty XX gallon container so no risk of over filling

I recently found out what running "used motor oil" does to injectors. I had leaking injector o-rings after installing a cheap set of o-rings that failed in a very short amount of time. It dumped oil into the fuel system, and I was running a mix of motor oil and fuel.

Pulled the injectors, and all 8 of them had gunk built up on the injector tips.

Used motor oil = bad news for injectors.

I just completed another successful hunting season traveling from PA to WV & MD. Twenty four round trips to be exact and each trip is + or - 200 miles. For conversation sake, lets say 5000 miles total for the season. I ran a 50-50 mix for all 5000 miles and no problems again this year! This is at least the third year in a row I've done this with no ill effects. Well, the only bad things are, less power, more smoke, and mpg drops from 20 to (15-17 range). I don't get fancy with the filtering of the oil, it's simply dripped through a cheap coffee filter and dumped into the truck. No! I don't go through a bunch of filters on the truck either as it gets changed once a year. This isn't an everyday driver (it's a hunting / wood truck) only put about 10,000 miles per year. OH, it's an 89 F-350 4x4 7.3IDI w/ 5spd single cab dual tanks and yes I warm it up and shut it down on regular diesel.

well, we've been doin it at work for over a year at work now. We put 50gals oil 5 gal diesel and heat it in a tank and centerfuge it for 24hours. after that we mix it 50/50 (diesel/ oil) in our storage tank.

we Have a water separation drum with a screen mesh for large particles (about a 70 gal tank before mesh.then thee filters, then centerfuge then a goldenrod filter as its leaving the storage tank to filltrucks. No problems other than a little carbon smoke. on a hard pull. had one hpop go out not sure if it was the 250k miles on the truck or a bad batch. overall not bad imo.

f.y.i. trucks are all 7.3powerstrokes except for 2 24v cummins, and one international .... and our backhoes trackhoes forklifts etc.

What is the flash point of used engine oil and how does the compare to diesel and veggy oil?

our 6.7's are only 20 rated....that's 20% bio on top of 80% normal diesel.

running used motor has some problems....the metal in the used oil will screw up all your sensor...the used particles in the oil will gum up your injectors.

theres a lot of elaborate equipment neede to process used oil to run in a modern 67. heatrs, centrifuges, etc
