78 f100 project

Hey yall, hows this sound? Me and a pal of mine are workin on my project that been wanting to get up and going and the truck is a f100 78 model. We are planning on making it into a custom show truck and dragster when want to. Were gonna shorten the bed of the truck up severely by cutting 2 feet out behind the cab then another foot behind the axle to help with the weight. Then gonna make a fiberglass bed and hood to help with the weight but have a wood bed. Going to remove the drip rail over the doors and also weld all the seams on the cab. Also going to remove all the strip chrome molding off of the truck and go with the custom paint job and no chrome at all.The interior is gonna be completely re done and custom but go with the old school type gauges. The motor is going to be a ford 400m that we are going to rebuild and try shove 500 horses out of it by turning it into a roller rocker motor with flat tops, nice cam, you know. Then go with a 8 stack fuel injection plant to run this monster with a custom intake. The breather will be hid inside the cab underneath the dash so that way noone will be able to see what we are running in the truck. Also have a regular quiet exhaust but have cut outs with flame throwers on them for the looks and also gotta be loud when race someone you know. Hows this project sound to yall?

Actually not gonna cost that much. The bud of mine can do anything you can dream of to a vehicle nad is going to do all the body work, engine work, everything for free. All I have to do is buy the parts which isint going to be that much actually.

Yea it is. No offense but i cant stand a stang, everyone around here has one and think they are the baddest person riding around. PLus a friend of mine has the 2004 gto and all and he really thinks he the hoss. Our goal is to get it built, and take it to a friend of his, and keeping tuning it and running it till we hit 12 seconds flat in the quarter, that way be able to beat him and bout everything else around here thats street legal. The deal is that I have to either go in thirds or halfs with him to buy his mig welder and he does everything for free. Real hard decison, pay 170-250 get all work done for free or not pay that and dish out the money.... mmmm real hard. We also planning on maknig the motor seem like a 302, yes I know sounds hard cause is a 400, but we are going to drop the motor down and cut into the fire wall so can scoot it back then come back and trim the fender wells to make it appear theres more room under the hood plus get the mustang 5.0 liter engine covers and all and put on top of it and have everything hid under them. Plus have a decoy 42 mm throttle body on the front of the intake with a breather hook on it with a fake linkage running to it also. That way no one wont really look on the backside of the intake under the covers and partway under the dash to see the 8 stack fuel injection plant and have the breather hid inside the cab in the dash.

Or you could just not open the hood.

It sounds pretty cool, but why the 400. They have thin cylinder walls and are prone to overheating. Why not do a 351w stoker motor. You could do a 393 (I think thats the cid) with little block modification. Would be alot easier to disguise as a 5.0 too. Looks pretty similar just a little taller. Just my 2 cents. Have fun man.

Now you know, if you race someone, the other person is gonna want to see whats under your hood plus let you see what they got. But unless they are a true serious motorhead, they wont notice the lil disguising parts that weve done. Plus, if you wont pop the hood, they wont race you for nuttin. The reason why going with the 400 is first, already got the motor so dont have to buy another one and second, the 400 is a torque monster like no tomorrow. Plus, i like a challenge and so does my friend and we like to see what all we can do.One feller said we couldnt punch 500 horses out of it so we are going to try and prove him wrong in anyway possible. Im gonna start posting pics on here to show my progress of the truck. Done got the motor tore down to the block and fixing to start on the body itself.

WHOA!!! Today read I believe the newest engine master and in the jegs engine master challenge, couple folks used the exact same motor ive got, 400m, and got 672 horses with if remember right over 600 foot pounds of torque. And folks been saying the 400 is a junk engine, I refer to this article.

You can make plenty of power with that motor, but I would question the longevity of such a beast. Of course endurance with that kinda HP in anything less than a big block could be an issue any how. Just seems to me there are better platforms for that kind of a build up, IMHO.

Yea I would love to get that much horsepower but thats a lil much and as you said, the longevity. Would have to do maintenance work on it pretty much every week and it would become a hassle. This motor is going in my truck and the truck is gonna be a show street/strip truck and also in the end, im gonna run the 8 stack fuel injection on it so i really dont need to have that much power built up with the carb while waiting on to get the 8 stack built.

I Don't Know About Anybody Else, But
I Can Tell The Differance From A 5.0 And
A 5.8 Just By Looking At It.much Easier
To Distiguish A 400. This Sounds More
Like A Make-believe Story,must See To Believe

Yea we know, your average motorhead does and can tell the difference between a 400 and a 302, 6.6, 5.0, lot bigger. Just have to look at the front of the motor at the timing boss thats it. We are talking about your everyday ricers and people that go out and buy a so called "muscle car" and think they are bad, even though it does have a v8 in it or a v6. We are just trying to prove that with a lil work and time, you can smoke bout anything you want that someone has bought and paid at least 20 grand for and do it for a lot less.

Don't hold your breath...

OP hasn't typed a post in this thread since 3/10/2008 .. Hasn't typed a post on FTE since 4/24/2008.

People do this jazz all the time, want to build a gazillion HP engine, make all sorts of mods. But when reality sets in, they disappear like a phart in the wind.
