My 1991 f150 4X4 seems to have a miss when going uphill or at highway speeds. It's hard to explain but it feels like it loses power for a second like it isn't getting enough fuel. At idle it runs smoothly. I replaced the fuel filter but that didn't help, also the plugs. Any ideas? The tranny was rebuilt last year so I don't think it's slipping but that is somewhat what it feels like.
Ok, it could be alot of different things causing it to miss when going up a hill or under a small load? If it were me I would start with the basics. When is the last time you had a complete tune up? Autolite plugs, wires, cap & rotor (bronze tipped), filters. Just one of these items not being 100% can cause it to miss. You may want to consider this first. Good Luck!!
It's probably running lean on 1 or more cylinders, run some fuel injector cleaner through it, and if that fails I'd suggest removing the injectors to have them professionally cleaned by an injector service place.
my truck is doing the same thing right now but i think mine is a vacuum leak( i know i have a vacuum leak somewhere even if that isnt causing it) i think the number8 cylinder( the rear on the passenger side?) is missing dont know if thats where the missing air pump went or not. could a missing air pump cause it to miss, o a bad egr or pcv valve.
I did installed new plugs (champion) but didn't replace the wires, cap or rotor. That will be my next move. I did dump injector cleaner into the last tank of gas but haven't run it through yet so maybe that will help. By the way, it's a 351W. The PCV valve on the valve cover may be loose fitting into the cover because it's in a real hard spot to seat with only like an inch clearance under the intake manifold, could that be causing this kind of problem? Thanx for the advice so far.
