What we're after here is "Does a ZF6 bolt up to a 351W" (which I could become real interested in), "or how can it be adapted?"
I just started working in a transmission shop - if I remember to I'll ask the boss on monday.
basically yes thanks for simplifying wolf. i know it does not bolt up thats why i was needing the dimentions from both bell housings so i can go about finding a way to make it work. no company i can find sells a adaptor plate so one needs to be made. most everything ive found is for the nv5600. which i dont want to use, not unless its gonna cost a significant amount more for the zf.
thanks wolf, no autos for me im not racing. i like shifting makes it more fun to drive, and i have more control of how it shifts. anything you can dig up would be great. this trans problem seems to be the only thing i can figure out with on my build plans.
Assuming you have loads of cash just laying around and you want a brand new bullet-proof trans "RICHMOND" makes a six speed with a detachable (read: Mix and Match) bell housing, that comes as either a top loader or tail housing stick.
The gearbox itself is two grand, the bell housing is another five hundred. This is also spelled and pronounced "OUCH!!!" But it's brand new, and warranteed (within limits).
OPTION TWO:
Rather than redesign what you can buy down the street (or online) check out what is offered at the following link:
thanks wolf but this still puts me in the same situation. advanced adaptors doesnt make anything that i want to run. some are close but nothing is quite what i want.
what richmond is it that has the removable tail section? i looked on their site but couldnt find it. the only prob i see with the richmond is the 1st gear ratio. its not quite as low as i would like.
with the zf6 and np203/205 and 4.56 gears im looking at close to a 100:1 crawl ratio. with the richmond its only around 80:1 not that much but enough i could justify using the zf. plus the cost would prob be the same either route i went.
for cost reason i think no matter which way i go they are all about the same. so i my thinking is why not go for what i want.
now i guess i just need to get the tranny and block and figure out how to mate them together. i think for designing purposes im gonna get the 2 different plates and design off of them.
thanks everyone for your help and i will definatly let everyone know how it turns out.
