i changed my oil today and afterwards i was driving around looked up my truck and saw an oil spot. my backside of my oil pan is pretty wet and my fumoto drain had some oil on it.... with my pan starting to leak will the por-15 still do its job..i dont have the funds to get a new oil pan right now...im hoping that the por-15 will work thanks in advance for the help
Of course empty the oil pan the night before application. If it is leaking. And withe the patch and paint it would probably take all weekend before you refill the oil.
see thats the thing though i dont know exactly where its leaking from all i know is that it coming down from the backside..so should i just apply the patch on the whole backside then apply the starter kit?
I think if you take off the inspection plate on the tranny. It will reveal the whole backside of the pan.Or at least most of it.Once revealed Wire brush or wire wheel it and apply as instructed. You'll be good from there.Once you wire wheel it you should be able to see where its seeping. If not,Than I would do the whole backside.why not, cant hurt.
The inspection plate is the black plate at the front of the tranny that butts up against the oil pan. There's 3 10mm (IIRC) bolts holding it on. I bet you will find out you have a turbo pedistal oring leak or a EPBV oring leak. Very common on our trucks.
yea my pan is bubbly not on the backside tho..more or less on the sides.. but i did replace my upper pedistal o-rings.. not my lower ones and where is the o-ring on the EBPV? thanks again for your guys help
.i dont have the funds to get a new oil pan right now...im hoping that the por-15 will work thanks in advance for the help
Ya the funds would include about $140 for the oil pan and $1300-$2000 to lift the engine so some show could put it on! mines in rough shape - all these michigan winters have taken their tole. I would definitly take the weekend and do this the right way, POR-15 it. saves you ALOT of headche in the long run. hindsight is 20/20 , Ive been there - done that and its not fun to have a leaking oil pan that just gets worse. Goodluck!!
thanks i think once it gets a little warmer out im gunna change my lower pedistal o-rings and definately do the por-15...but where is the EBPV o-ring located at
Sorry Bob.From the way i read your post,I thought it was a definite that you knew the pan leaked back there. If thats not the case, and its leaking from some other place. Then running down the back of the pan,These guys are steering you in the right direction. If it is your pan leaking then its the Por-15 as stated before.
EPBV is in the lower pedistal. Not sure if it's truly an oring or not. I just installed a non-EPBV pedistal w/ matching turbo out let. Mine was seeping oil out of it.
