Hello,Im brand new to this site, and in need of help.I purchased a 1986 ford f150 stepside last year. Now I know the truck originally came with a 6cyl engine and manual trans. There is a 302(is what i was told) engine and a automatic trans in the truck now.The trucks running rough, stalling out here and there or coming close to stalling out.I am trying to find out if there is any possible way to find out what the motor in my truck originally came from.It is a carburated motor?Thank you
It has a 2bbl carb.I just figured if there was a way to pin point what type of vehicle the engine was out of it would be alot easier to get parts. Thanks for the reply.
If you can figure out what year the motor is, that will help you alot. I have a 1974 302 in my 1979 Capri. When I need parts for it I just ask for parts for a 1974 ford truck with a 302. I figure best case scenario is the trucks had some stronger/heavier duty parts than the cars. I know the fuel pumps looked different between a 74 car 302 and a 74 truck 302. Try and find a number sequence that starts with a letter and we can tell you what year it is.
There is a number on top of the valve cover on a sticker that began with letters. The number is cks50aa have no idea what that is for though or if it would help me.
Is their a white sticker on the driver side valve cover, it has a date on it. If it is a factory cast intake their will be serial number on it. The way the serial numbers go is they start with c6 - c9, the c stand for the 60's era, then d0 - d9 stand for 1970 - 1979, then e0 - e9 stand for 1980 - 1989. If this is confusing let me know.

Those are not serial numbers. they're either casting or engineering numbers...and that doesn't always tell what yr the engine is, because the same parts could have been used for years on many models.
Engineering numbers can be translated to actual Ford part numbers, casting numbers cannot.
Stickers on valve covers are emissions related. There's a engineering number on the sticker, but that number is for the sticker only.
Well I got under the truck and checked by the starter, the only number I can see is 2T ETTE CA atleast thats what it looks like its kinda tight under there.Any ideas as to what this number is and if it means anything or can help me.Thank you
