that is weird, cause if you change your starter (which I just did) oil coming out is not an issue. all you have to worry about the power cables and 3 or two bolts.

It is probably coming from your pedestal up above the starter. The "O" rings are probably leaking.. It is pretty common to have a leak here. Double check your engine valley for oil however..(could be your hpop if you have oil in the valley) . My petestal is leaking a littel but not enough to change the o rings yet.

Check at the bottom end of the dipstick tube. It is behind the starter. It looks like this:

Apology accepted, it's just that I did not know you could get that good of a view of it, course I have a 2wd and do not have the ground clearance most every other member here has. But I do get much better mpg.

Okay, now that sounds a little easier, but both times I've changed my starter I've been occupied doing just that. But i'ts still a good photo, why you did it, let alone saved it is kind of a mystery, but to each his own.

Last November I thought I had an oil leak from the flange but it turned out to be the dipstick tube o-ring. I have actually helped a few people fix an oil leak by posting that pic. If you have a 500 Gigabit back-up hard drive you tend to save a lot of crap . Besides I never said I took the picture. I found it posted here on FTE. The pic was posted by Andy aka FatDiesel.

are you sure its (oil)?
just today i had a new (ground) leak and it was coming off the starter. but the puddle was fuel. above the starter, on the back of the engine is a fuel return line. you can follow it from the fuel filter housing. anyway it somehow was 1/8 of a turn loose. tightend it, and no more leak.

Well let's just say "It should look like this". And no tellin' what Andy's looked like before he cleaned it up for the picture.
