It's time to replace the disc brake pads on the front. It's a Dana 50 axle. Are they any different to replace than any other disc brakes? They appear to be dual piston calipers. Can you press the pistons back into the calipers with a C clamp and 2X4 or do I need to get one of those clamps that rotate the pistons as they are pressed in?
They are just like regular calipers, You dont need that tool it is usually just for newer vehicals that have disc in the rear and the E-brake uses the same disc and not a drum inside they disc. Just did mine on my truck a few months ago. very easy.
Yep just press them back in. Are you planning on changing the rotors as well? those are a pain as they mount on the back side of the hub. Just be warned if that was your plan. You have to remove the hub and pound out the stud then remove the rotor and reinstall and pound the studs back in.
I wasn't planning on swapping the rotors. They are in good shape. Sounds like a real pain to change them out though. Thanks for the advice guys. One more chore for next weekend.
I was looking at that the other day when I rotated the tires and put the shocks on - trying to figure out how to get the rotors off if I had to. I can pull a rotor from the D35 TTB (Explorer front end) in my Bronco II in about 30min. Doing the brakes and rotors on the F250 looks like an all day job.
