if I have one from the factory why do I still get that surge at high boost pressures pulling heavy loads. I have a 12k 5th wheel that I pull and it will surge do you think replacing the wicked wheel take care of that issue? thanks for all the help glad I found this site you guys definately are ford guru's
The early 99s were *less prone* to surge, not completely surge free. Not sure what you can do about it, though. Maybe one of the early 99 experts can chime in.
Hey racincowboy. I have been told that replacing the compressor or intake side of the turbo with the ATS ported housing will take care of the surge. I have not actually tried it yet, but they say if you are towing a lot that is the way to go. strokin' it 7.3(Kris) has done this on his truck. PM him and he will get back to you.
For the guys that are going to do the WW swap instead of laying on top of the engine take time to remove the dr. side batt.,air intake, inner finder and front wheel, you can squeeze in under the finder and stand on the axle and work from right there.made this some extra work but it beat laying on the eng.I did this when I changed my uppipe donuts and pipes out and changed the o-rings under the turbo.

My early 99 does not surge.... period. No need for wicked wheel.
I agree with norwood, the ATS shroud sounds pretty amazing. Def. gonna pull the turbo again and put the shround on (didn't do it now, no money when ur 17)

No need to pull turbo to install the ATS, and your PSD will not surge once the ATS is installed.
haha wow i def. woulda wasted another 6 hours pulling the turbo but now that i think about it your right. I can get to that side easily without pulling it. One ?: wat about the wastegate, can i get to the two bolts holding it on without pulling the turbo
haha nooo im just a lil slow and take my time (i inventoried and marked every single piece i pulled, i'm known to lose stuff) that and it was my first time soo it probably took me longer that it shoulda
Having Left Over Pieces Is Whats Its All About, Losing Them Means Your Working Hard...........i Probably Need To Keep Better Track Myself When I Do My Projects.
haha yea i have lost too many things over the years (whether it be that damned truck or my dirtbikes i'm constantly at a loss) that concussion that put me in the hospital for 3 days probably doesn't have anything to do with it though either....
