Well so far, I am comparing a 8000 dollar truck, that gets safetied every 6 months so it would pass safety, to a 40,000 dollarish truck that would pass safety. If I do well enough I would just sell the 8000 truck after a year or two anyways.
Hopefully no break downs between now and when you sell it.
One repair bill may cost more than the price of this truck.... it may not be worth fixing depending on how old it is....
I know those Sterlings ain't worth a hoot. All of Kenrocs trucks are 3 years or newwer, they are in the shop more and bigger "minor" repair lists then my old 1988 Ford L9000 ever was.
There is a sterling 3 ton leaks antifreeze crazy the repair shops for some stupid reason can't find where it is leaking. Shift weird and air leaks.
Its the most reliable truck from the time period and tehre is tons of them around for parts! Ive done alot of research into it. Its not exactly what i want, but its the most reliable, cheapest truck in the best shape that I have found so far. Putting some money into parts could happen with a newer truck too, and parts would probably be more money.
A good and careful owner operator is the one to buy from, I`ve seen too many wanna be and poorly trained fleet ''truck drivers'' from hell.
An owner op has to fix what he breaks while some fleet drivers don`t care, there`s another job waiting.
Yeah Im basing my experience on mostly edmonton trucks. Most places even have their own mechanics to do the regular repairs and maintence. No idea about around saskatoon.
i guess it depends on the size of the fleet. definately a good idea to buy from a guy who the truck was his bread and butter!! you always take care of the things that take care of you!!!
