Is it better to get the rebuild kit from the dealer or just rebuilt calipers from the parts store? I need to do something because when I got my alignment they said that the pull was more than likely from the brakes not the alignment. So I was going to replace the pads and the rotor, because I'm pretty sure that it's warped but wasn't sure about the caliper.
There has been a problem with the disc brake calipers siezing in areas where salt is used a lot on the winter roads. There is one company in my area that is offering a lifetime warranty on the calipers now and I have switched to them. Including the ones Bought elsewhere I have replaced 5 calipers so far from siezing. One no longer applied, the others all refused to release on failure.
if its pulling to one side and its not alignment check the caliper. i've replaced all 4 on mine. (common). jack each tire off the ground and spin them by hand. whatever ones don't spin, the calipers frozen and needs to be replaced.
the slide pins themselves can also rust up (frozen) and prevent the calipers from working properly. you'll have to just take off the calipers and see. if the piston in the caliper wont go back in just by a caliper from any parts store. around $70.
I few years ago I fooled with trying to free them up and or rebuild them. I finally said screw it and replaced the calipers. They are easy to do, not very expensive, guaranteed and have been trouble free ever since.
My right front started smelling a bit hot the other day. I checked the pins and they are loose. Who has a good price on calipers?
Good price? I don't know, I just wanted mine right now and got them at a Carquest in a little town in Florida. I just wanted it done, and the price did not shock me, and as cheap as I am, tells me it must not have been too bad, or I would still be muttering to myself about. Just glad I did it and got it over with. I was tired of ruining rotors.
