I have just finished changing all eight glow plugs in my 1004 IDI turbo. I found a set of hollow sockets at Lowe's that are just about perfect to get under the turbo to remove/install the glow plugs by just removing the bolts on the gp. controller and moving it aside. I know it can be done other ways, but $30.00 is a small price for this much help, IMHO. They have two sets, this is the small set. Hope this helps someone, John
Okay, the lowe's part # is 266731 The official name is "1/4 in. SAE/Metric Flex-Thru Ratchet Socket Set 21 Pc. (exactly as listed on the tool holder) Kobalt brand. I could not find them on Lowe's web page, even with Pt. No. Also my truck is a 1994, not a 1004. This has to be just about the best thing going for glow plugs. (no I don't own any Lowe's stock) John
Just changed glow plugs yesterday on non turbo and was thinking about how ratching box wrenches which pivot near head that I saw at Lowes would have helped with one gp under injector lines. Can not imagine working under a turbo setup. The hollow heads were in the same display.
Yes, the killer thing about this set is that the ratchet handle flexes up and down on the head, so it's possible to clear the head while it's inserted between the engine head and the rubber bypass lines, and it's almost as small as a 1/4" ratchet going under the turbo is not much of a problem. John
