A friend of mine got a free 275 gal tank with the heating oil in it. He ran it with a little 2 cycle oil and said it worked fine but plugged his filter up a week later. My guess is that its not very clean on the inside of those tanks.
its not the inside of the tank..well maybe a little..but when heating oil is delivered to your house..it doesn't get filtered like the off road #2 at the pumps cause you have that filter at the pump in your furnace.....id hate to have the crap in my injectors...
I hauled Diesel Fuel and Home heating oil. Both came out of the same nozzle, same tank and same pipeline. Same goes for gasoline. All brands come from the same source, it's the additives each "say they put in " that makes them different. There is a difference between #2 and #1 fuel. I'd steer clear of #1 unless you have a severe gelling problem then #1 may keep your fuel from gelling.
im sure you dont use a gas station pump with 3 filters in it to fill that big truck..time is money..most places fill the trucks from a bulk tank..the truck filling your heating tank is much like a bulk tank..only on wheels....if they took the time to filter it right..they would never fill there oreders in a day.....
Cat engines with HUEI technology run #2 offroad all day and all night without any problems. See, I agree with ron in many ways, but it is all up to the end user in how it the Home heating oil you are getting for free is filtered. If I find any for free, I would put it into a transfer tank on the back of the truck or at the shop. Most transfer pumps have a napa spin on filter, just filter it your self.
