we jacked up the rear end, and put the truck into drive. the noise is coming from we think the rear hubs or rear end. noise is at its greatest around the rear hubs. once again its a 02' f250 stroker. 4WD.
yes its like grinding, swooshing noise, if thats a word. We get alot of shudder in the rear when taking off up hill. rear end had normal metal content on the plug, and has been changed regulary. maybe the axle seals. truck has been deep in water and deep in the mud before. seems to have excessive play in the carrier to. some dry rought, and old dirt/grease around the u-joint caps.
I thought about that to. but the noise is loud at the rear. tranny seems to shift ok. u stand on it pretty good and will shudder. good amount of axle slack in the rear. the engine and tranny are quiet, when we had the rear end on jacks and in drive at various speeds. rear was slightly quiet on the noise when we ran it in reverse. when we put it in neutral the rear wheels still turned slowly.
The u-joints have a bit of dried grease around 2 of them, the ones from the carrier back. i seen a slight gap with dirt around one of them between the black seal and the cap. the drive shaft seems to run strait before the carrier and has a out of round flop between the carrier and rearend. the carrier has a 1/4 in. all around movement in it. rubber is cut in a few places and has dry-rought. and the rear has about a 1/4 in. slack from the drive line.
