I have a 95 f-350 powerstroke that has a rumbling noise from about 35 mph up. I am pretty sure it is the rear end. I do not want to buy a rebuilt one but I have found a used one out of a 94 single wheel 250. My question is will it fit my truck if I put my hubs on it?
Why would you need to put your hubs on it? Axles are identical...
I'd pull the cover off and check the gear teeth. Could be the spider gears going bad, also check for metal shavings or metallic flakes in the old oil. If you have a limited slip it could be the clutches going bad also.
Or bearings... Hard to say without looking at it. My bet would be spider gears though.

thanks for the reply. I got out there and pulled the cover there are 2 and 3/4 teeth missing off of the ring gear. So I guess its time to find a replacement.

If you need new gears anyways might think of upgrading while you have it apart...
DOn't know what gears you have now, but if you do a lot of towing you might want to go to a 3.73 or 4.10 gearing if you only have 3.55's now... or if you don't tow and you have 4.10's you could do the opposite.
Also if you are going to put a locker or limited slip in do it now! Save some time later on.
Make sure all the bearings and such get replaced too! And I'd recommend a synthetic gear oil with the new gears.
Oh, and I assume yours is a dually if you mentioned that the F250 axle you found is a SRW... You can't swap hubs on the rear ends because there is now way to take it apart. Ford made 3 different width rears for these trucks.
The narrowest was the cab and chassis dually rear, in the middle was the SRW, and the widest was the regular dually rear. I did a swap from dually to SRW and the dually axle is 4 inches wider overall.
So if you swapped the axle and wanted to stay dually you'd need to get another dually axle.
