Question Head Gasket Thickness

I bought my project 58 f100 ,with a 292 a year ago and just noticed that one head gasket is on backwards. After some research have found some thin steel head gaskets on ebay to keep my compression ratio up. I got the gaskets yesterday and noticed that there is no square corners on it I also noticed it is missing two small holes between the center two pistons as compared to the modern felpro gaskets. I am about to take the head off this weekend but would appreciate any info on the gaskets. I am running stock pistons with G heads. The motor has new rings and bearings when I bought it. Also read that composition gaskets can reduce compression by 12% .Is this right from say 9:1 to 7.8:1 ? How much lost horsepower? Any help much appreciated thanks.

you will lose about 1/2 point with thick gasgets.does your block and head have the holes drilled between the center cylinders.you can drill them in the new gasget.real old gasgets dont have them.i have seen old steel gasgets that were rounded at both ends.just make sure you put it on right.

I have the cooling holes in my block but not in my head
I am worried that without the raised portion around the hole that coolant will just run out the side . I can see on the old gasket water(rust) stains which seem to completely fill all the raised portions of the gasket around all the coolant holes. Have you tried this with the older gaskets? wondering if it would leak? Still looking for the right gasket if anyone knows of any nos 1176bs gaskets . 46Yblock was very helpfull but had the older gaskets as well . I have some spare steel felpro 7666 if anyone needs some.
