I own a White 04' F-250. The past few michigan winters that this truck has had to endure has produced these small little rust spots all over the paint. Has anyone with a white truck get this problem after the winter months and what is the best way to get rid of them? Thanks, Craig
Is the rust cancering up from under the paint or is it on top of the paint?
I'd start with a clay bar treatment. It's possible the rust you see is rail dust or similar iron particles stuck in the paint. Either way though this is a good start to get it clean and strip off any wax. If that doesn't clear it up, your going to need to polish the orange out, I am not sure if it's possible, but it's cheaper than repainting.
Common problem, and likely on top rather than from bottom.
1. bathe the truck
2. wipe down with a prep solvent (bug & tar remover) which may remove the spots.
3. clay bar/polish as necessary (ultra fine polish, NOT polishing or rubbing compound)
4. cleaner wax or carnuba. Or look for something with some naptha in it to consolidate a couple of the above steps (some of the fancier glaze products)
You need to evaluate why this happens too. Is this along the rubber gaskets btween the door and frame? If so, allow that to dry.
Have ye magnetic signs? If so, pull them off and allow them (and the paint to dry out)
This has happened every year on all my trucks. It is more noticeable on the lighter colored paints. As a matter of fact, I just pointed this out to a friend's silver truck the other day, which he did not appreciate. Anyway, I find the spots most prominent on the tailgate. I just figured it was coming from the crap slung up from the road, or from the rusty undercarriage. I just use Mother's cleaner wax and a lot of elbow grease. They are stubborn little spots, but with time and effort they do come off.
Thanks, I will try the clay bar treatment first (if it ever warms up around here). I am used to getting a few of these spots on the paint every year and have always seemed to get them off. This year the truck is really bad. I dont think i have enough elbow grease to do the whole truck. LOL So i will try the clay bar. Thanks, Craig

I moved my clay to the wheel locker since I found the Elastrofoam Paint Cleaning System. No worries on paint damage and if you have wax or sealant on the paint, this does NOT remove it. It also seems to work faster that the medium clay I used to use. Another BIG point for me is if you drop it, wash it off and get back at it. So the only time clay gets near any of my cars or trucks is if the wheels get stained or need a good cleaning.
