Today I was driving to work on the highway.
I always have heard, since I have owned it, a clicking sound that is variable and in sync with the rpms. I start to hear it as you let off the accelerator at speeds above 30ish
Today, while driving down the highway, I heard a sudden increase in the noise.
The noise is still there and more promininent than ever. It is noticeable while accelerating at around 1300 rpms.
I am guessing a exhaust gasket between and up pipe and someting else or something else. I can't notice it at idle and can't see anything different.
I don't have gauges and don't know what my egts are at, but I am not towing anything and I have a 3" dp and a tymar intake. No smoke coming out of exhaust.
Ideas?
I can hear it only in the cab.
No CEL lights, no nada. The only change I observe is the noise. At around 1300rpms I start to notice it sounds like a big block with the exhaust manifold is blown.
I just unplugged the EBPV a couple of days ago, is it possible it is clogged?
i heard someone talking about these clogging. i have no idea how to clean it.
the sensor and it's tube is what gets clogged. the valve in the turbo can stick, but you would hear a hissing sound if that happened. i would give it a thorough visual inspection all around the manifolds, uppies, turbo and down pipe. look for soot indicating a leak.
thanks will do. Other ideas? What led you to the internal tick sound and what are your thoughts.
Maybe it is my fear that doesn't want an internal click.
Truck only has 109K on it.

i doubt you have an internal problem, but you said it sounded like a tick but you didn't see any exhaust smoke under the hood. that led me to believe there was no exhaust leak. but in reality you won't always see smoke especially if it is a small leak. if you have any mods that make a little black smoke you could have buddy rev it while you look for the smoke. or restrict the air filter to induce black smoke to check for leaks. you know, the old walmart bag mod
it's pretty common failure, hasn't happened to me yet, so i dont know about repair/replace it. can't be hard. do a search for it, i have seen instructions here about working on it.
So I am 99% certain it is my vacuum pump.
How do I fix it?
Or is it easier to replace?
No fix that I know of. Easy to replace, need to buy/rent/have a pully-puller to get the old one off and put it on the new one. I did it a while ago but it was an easy enough fix
You unplugged the EBPV and did you wire it open? Mine fluttered when I unplugged it and I noticed the noise on acceleration. I was told to wire it open. I just pluged it back in until I decide on whether to gut it or put in a switch to make an exhaust brake.

there shouldnt be a need to wire it open, if its unplugged then it shuoldnt move, try grabbing the rod and see if its loose, you shouldnt be able to move it. if you can then the spring is busted inside and you need to wire it open
