you need to go to your auto parts store and buy a tool to pop off the fuel line. the tool is just a little plastic thing that slides over the fuel line and has s lip that slides where the cupler is on the fuel filter. once you get the tool the job is 3/4 way done lol.
how do you change the fuel filter in these trucks i cant seem to figure it out any help would be greatly appriciated
Poster #2 is right, The plastic clips slide or the lines and slide inside the couplers and push open a little clip inside that releases the other end.
I bought a set of 7 different sizes a few years back and they come in very handy.
The fuel filter itself pops into a holder, on the inside of the drivers side framerail, that goes around the outside of the filter.
Wear safety glasses and careful of rust in your eyes.
Might want to wear gloves also to help protect your hands from the draining gas in the line.
Be sure to read my "Saturday fuel filter fiasco" about two pages down, but in the mean time, all you should do is slide the little collar tool into the gas line and it will open the spring LOL, and you'll have to get the line off, I got only one side off with little trouble. You might need a screwdriver with a big blade just to push the line over gently to help it along. Try not to force anything, I was so POed I was ready to use drastic measures, but then came to my senses, plastic explosives might disrupt the nieghborhood. I've changed lots of fuel filters, but this Ford truck thing wins hands down as the dumbest design known to man, they (the engineers) must have spent years in a solitary booth inventing the thing.
when i changed mine i uncapped the gas tank to relieve pressure to the line and then i used a screwdriver to pop the little plastic clips off of the line and then removed and replaced the filter, i lost a minimal amount of fuel and the whole process took me like 10 min
