I currently have 265/70 R16 tires...
I am planing on adding the 2" lift/leveling kit...
What is the largest tire size I can handle? I do alot of hwy driving with only 500-1000lbs in the bed... IE Just want bigger tires...
Can I go 305s? or at that point would 33"-35 tires make more sense?
I dont know tires very well, but I need some new ones and was hoping to go bigger...
You can fit 305s on there without the lift. a 285, and a 305 tire are about 33 inches tall, the difference is in the width (look at the specs of major tire brands). A 315 is a 35" tire. With the level kit you will be able to fit the 315s in there. Now for the bad news, 315s need to be mounted on a 9 inch wide rim, ours rims are not 9 inches wide. Can you do it? Yes . Should you do it? Probably not. As a matter of fact, some tire shops will not mount the larger tires on stock rims.
See my gallery for what 305's look like on a no lift truck. Also, I do not have any rubbing issues.
What Brandon Said For The Most Part Is Right On, But It Depends On The Tire Manufacture As Well. The Tire Web Sites Will Give You A Min/max Rim Width..by The Way, I Had 315's With Out A Lift. Rubs On The Leaf, I Now Have 3", And Still Rubs On The Leaf. Hell, It Rubbed On The Leaf With The 265's Though.
305 is not a taller tirer, it is how wide your tire is if you google tire calculator you should see some web sites that will brake down the size for you. as far as your truck i had 305/75 r16 on mine but it is a 4x4 so you should be ok and those are 33"
If you make a mark on tire at bottom center, and mark the pavement to line up roll truck forward to bottom center again. Then calulate 3.1416 gives tire height on truck, for speedo. Most 285 are only 31.50 most 315 are 33.50.
well, I took the high tech road and got my fatmax tape and measured from the dirt to the top of the tire and 33 1/4 inches... and thats a 315 75 16 BFG AT
betcha if I took the tire off and layed it on the ground it would be at least a 34...

Reason: cant spell
I guess the next question is will 285 which is ~ a 35" tire? fit?
Again this is a 2wd with 2" lift in the front.
Would it be cheaper to buy straight 35" tires?
And yes, I would say with a 2" lift a 285/75 R16 will fit your truck and your stock rims just fine. If you want to jump to a 315/75 R16 (35") then you will need a 10" rim.
