The alternator belt really jumps alot. I changed belt and re tightened the alternator still the same. Is there a fix for this. seems like a big spand for the belt from the crank to the alternator. If there was a idler pully maybe that work work.
Anyone ever tried this and if so what did you use?
Thanks alot guys
This forum has helped this dumb Ga. boy out a bunch.
The jumping is the result of the power pulses as each cylinder fires.
I run premium belts from Gates, it still jumps but nothing like it did with the cheapies on it.
The alternator belt is a good one to run premium belts on anyway, since the alternator drives the vacuum pump.
If you loose the alternator belt braking goes to almost nothing with no vacuum assist.
Mine didn't jump around much until the alternator bearings burned up leaving me stranded with no charge and no vacuum assist. After replacing the alternator and both belts, the belt jumps some. My guess is that the PO had tightened the heck out of it. Expensive lession...some vibration is normal. Like Dave S said, it only jumps with the vacuum pump hooked up.
