Flux or gas, you still going to get spatter. If you want the job to look right, it will needed to be sanded anyways...
I dont like the idea of the rear bumper with the hook in the middle. take a hammer and I bet you can easily bend that hook with a couple of bends. I would have put a hitch receiver. being you already have two d rings.
That defeated the purpose of towing anything, and any side pulling.

Josh, the hook isn't to tow anything. This is for my mud racer that I am building. It is mainly to box and strengthen the rear of my frame and to give me a hook point if something happend to the truck and they have to pull me back out of the pit. In most mud races around me, the tire size classes have to pull a cable through the pit in case you don't make it through, thats all the purpose it serves, so the receiver hitch would be even more added weight that I want to reduce.

Well yeah but the cooking spray can prevent splatter getting on things you don't want it on. For example, if I'm welding on/around threaded fasteners, I like to spray the cooking spray on the threads. It prevents 95% of the splatter from actually sticking to the threads, and if any does it's easy to knock off.
i'd rather put bolts or cover the threads. Either way you need to sand, sandblast ect if you plan on doing coating with it with anything. If you have your welder set right, you should be able to take all the spatter off with a scraper
i'll have to try the cooking oil trick. I bet it smells good after a while!
Makes ya hungry. Might as well grab and egg and bome bread and fry up an egg sandwich wehile your welding.....
now thats a good idea, cook lunch and work on the rig at the same time, now that is multi tasking at its finest!!! Might even get some "freshly welded steel" flavor mixed in with the egg. Good stuff!
