Be sure to clean the tubing connecting the EBPS to the exhaust manifold .. I find it easier just to remove the tubing.. double check the fitting on the manifold for carbon build up after removal.. Did you get a P0478 fault code.. ?
I definitely saw an increase by cleaning the tube out. Mine was really caked up good with soot! Pain in the azz getting that thing off to clean it, but I gained about 1.5mpg. I also made the change to synthetic oil the same week, but I would say the EBPS cleanout was the majority of the gain.

You can get a Crow foot wrench at any auto parts store or at Sears. I was able to get mine off without the crow foot but I also had the belt off. I was changing all the radiator hoses and the belt.
One heavy dose of PB and 4 hours later without removing cover or belt mine came off with no more than a regular open end wrench, 1" socket. 10 minutes from open hood to close hood.
