Question for NumberDummy
I'm new to the forum. I have a 64 short bed that apparently came special ordered with a 5 on 5.5 Dana 60. I've posted pictures of it on the slick60s web site in my personal gallery under jbolivar if you'd like to take a look. It created quite a bit of discussion and drama on the forum. I hope you don't mind spending some time to answer a few questions? It seems here at fte that everyone respects your knowledge, etc. I'm make a daily driver street truck using a stock 4 barrel 71 Thunderjet 429 with D0VE-C heads and a C6. It's at a friend's shop and I haven't pulled the Dana cover off yet to see, but I'm hoping it's a powr lok. I was wondering if you had the ability to decifer the housing tag and numbers on the axle? The tag reads C4TA AK 2671 2 4 64 4:10, and the axle has stamped into it 4 21 4 A 415 4B1 2671. There is also a large 60 on the 3rd member. Is this an A or B body? Semi or full float (one better than the other)? Powr or trac loc? 30 spline? Good for street/drag racing? Does it really weigh 500 lbs? Thanks for any help. Jim
Welcome to (FTE)!
Heres a link that is from 48-56 f1 forum, this may help some. You may also
find alot more if you do a search on the dana 60.

C4TA-AK = Spicer (Dana) 60.2 / 4.10-1 / LIMITED SLIP
It's not a Traction-Lok...this is the old style clutch type LS first offered in 1959. It uses 10 clutch plates (6 lined, 4 steel). These were known as Equa-Loks back then.
Parts for these rear axles are hard to find and expensive. Some of the parts like wheel bearings and seals are different than what 8 lug 6.50 bolt pattern Spicer-Dana 60's use.
JMO: Considering what you want the axle to do, I'd replace it with a Ford 9 inch.
BTW: I'm one of the only FTE members with parts catalogs, and the only Ford partsman (except the two sponsors) on this site, so I'm rather busy.
You can email me direct off FTE if you need questions answered.
I don't always read thru all the forums....looking up part numbers is time consuming.
This is the first time I've read this thread, and I've been on FTE since 9PM last night (PST).

This is a 60.2, not a 60...so some of the internal parts (like axle shafts, seals, bearings) are different. Your rear axle is over 40 years old, some of the wear parts are close to crystalizing...snap an axle, where to find one?
When you do find the parts, the prices will be a stunner. The 9 was used behind all the hipo 406/427 Galaxies, Boss 302/351/429 Mustangs, Shelby GT500's and everything else performance wise, from 1957 thru the end of the HiPo era (circa 1973). Ford offered 9's with R&P's from 2.47-1 thru 5.57-1, so axle ratio options are many.
9 parts are easy to find, and is the best choice for any Ford...period.

After taking a look at slick 60s web site, and doing my (HOME WORK) ive came
up with this, after going though all your rear end posts, two weeks ago you
labled one of your rearend pics " DANA 60.2 " and all the threads about this
"DANA 60.2" and it would seem to me you already had your answers.
