D70 hub conversion question

Picked up a d70 axle last nite. 4:10's and a powr lok! 65" wms though. Was told it was a SRW. I'm thinking it must be a dually. I need it a few inches wider to match my 79 d60 front on my DD. I've done some searching this morning and found it may be possible to swap my now d60 FF rear hubs on the 70 giving me a new wms of 3/4" each side so 1 1/2 total. Other problem with diff is spring perches are 4" too narrow. Even with perches right at drum it barely fits. Going to remove drums, make weld on disc brackets and do rear discs. Got the discs already and I have a template I saved for bracket from last 70 build.

Got the rest figured just wanna double check hub swap question

A link to if it may work

My other 70 had longer tubes. Drums gotta go or they will pretty much rub springs.

I like the weld on brackets I came up with.

Especially with my big truck I could clock them to where I needed after I rotated diff up for a 1350 cv shaft. Also no bends or spacers like some

I had this posted on pirate with no hits..

Ive never heard of swapping 60 hubs onto a 70...especially to gain width. My question is fitment...60 spindles are smaller at the big end than 70 spindles by looking at it. I know the threaded portion is the same as 60s though. If you posted this on Pirate with no replies then Id be willing to bet its either not possible or not a common, feasible swap.

That link says it's the same but different offset on wms. I did confirm that dual hubs make it narrower and srw hubs make it wider. Kinda makes sense as a dually has an extra tire each side. I'm probably going to have to find out by just doing!!

MY 70 uses a much bigger inner wheel bearing.

It may be a bit if a downgrade going to smaller wheel studs and bearings. Not too worried about that though. This truck will never see a tire bigger than 36-38"s..

Must admit Ive been thinking about this off an on all day...

is 3/4" per side really going to be enough to make a difference on fitment?

Wonder if wheel bearings from a later 35sp FF 60 would work to make up the difference between the larger spindle and smaller hub?

I wouldnt worry about the bearings or wheel studs holding up either.

not too worried about these at all. Not really a known weakness I guess

Guy on pirate confirmed that a D61 hub worked on his 70 to gain width.
D61's are freaking goofy! They're like an inbred D70 , big axle tubes and wheel studs but with puny little 30 spline axles. Also they are offset for a gear no higher than 4:10 different than any other d60 or 70. Pretty sure d60 size carrier to. Got screwed on one once out of a 1980 f350 2wd.

Also I confirmed this is a 35 spline axle. Was hoping it wasn't the old 23 spline 1.5" style as it's more uncommon.

61 stuff is goofy. I can only say Ive ever seen one in person and if I remember right it had like 3.08 gears or something stupid high like that. I take it you have 61 hubs to swap on? If not finding and buying two hubs plus bearings will probably be as expensive as finding the correct width 70 for your build.

Was curious on the d61 and checked Randys ring and pinion just now. Guess there is a 35 spline one too but they still both have the 9.75 ring gear d60 carrier. Checked gear applications and they only listed a 3.07 and even it was discontinued! That axles junk. But maybe I need the hubs ..lol

If all else fails I could get a srw d70 and throw the power lok in it. Hell I got a spare d70 Detroit on my kitchen counter rightnow but I kinda promised a buddy I'd sell it to him for his buggy that he is actually building a Jana76 front that I mentioned months ago with the Detroit. Should be cool.
Detroits are a little chirpy on the street anyway and this is my DD. Power Lok is the best happy medium. My old Detroit d60 is going in it though. Just about to wrap up this ARB install right now..
Soon to have 2 pretty capable rigs here

Update: d60 hubs DO NOT WORK on a d70. Spindles are much larger on a 70. This was a fail on my part. Luckily I only borrowed a set from a buddy. Nothing lost but time

But I did find a set of srw d70 hubs today! $50
Might take while axle fir $100

Because I already have a 70 with a powr lok and I like these axles! My other truck has held up well with the d70 and no issues.
If I were to do any other axle it would be a 14 bolt
